Full Job Description

An enthusiasm to take on greater responsibility is crucial, as the successful Customs Consultant will have a strong voice in respect of key decision making and guiding the development of the business, alongside advising a portfolio of clients on international customs and trade matters. Applicants must hold existing knowledge and be capable of providing high quality advisory services and training to clients on their given customs and international trade subject matters. Equally, they will be a good listener and have strong people skills to navigate client meetings, build strong relationships and develop their own portfolio of clients to work with. The role is home based but, the successful applicant will be required to attend meetings at our Felixstowe office, as and when required. The successful applicant will be:

  • Responsible for keeping their technical knowledge of customs and trade subject matter at a very high level.
  • Eager to develop their skill set and engage in opportunities to further develop their knowledge.
  • Responsible for taking the lead and delivering research and advisory based projects to clients on their subject matters.
  • Using their commercial skills to develop their own portfolio of clients and to self-sufficiently generate new business opportunities.
  • A respected member of a small team, participating in leadership meetings, marketing strategy planning, curating new ideas and providing constructive input in respect of the company's development.
  • Highly skilled at effectively managing their own time and coordinating multiple active projects, business development and internal administrative tasks.
  • From time to time, expected to travel for client meetings and travel for face-to-face management meetings at least once a month at the company headquarters in the East of England.

    Degree level qualifications, or sufficient previous industry experience
  • Practical knowledge of import and export processes, trade procedures and documentation
  • Experience handling customs special procedure applications
  • Competent completing classification and interpreting rules of origin
  • Proven experience in public service, consulting or advisory background, or supply chain and logistics role with a focus on international trade, customs and excise
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Client focused and commercially aware
  • Outgoing team player with strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Project management skills to manage internal, external and administrative requirements
  • Competent using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Capable of working independently, but also in apart of a team
