Customs Declarant Team Leader

We are looking for a Customs - Team Leader who will support the organisation through development, management, and leadership of the Customs Team. They will be responsible for ensuring the team successfully deliver on all levels of Import and Export for the business.

Primary functions

• Staff management duties including workload allocation and resolving any issues and identifying training needs within the Customs Team


• Understand how Road Freight works between GB and the EU


• Knowledge of Incoterms


• Experienced and confident in dealing with both European and Deep-Sea Container Carriers ensuring our consignments are released on time to our Transport.


• Good working knowledge of Port Systems such as Destin8, CNS, familiar with Transit Procedures, NCTS and Customs Software


• Work closely with hauliers to ensure documentation/information is provided within reasonable time frames.


• Troubleshoot any clearance issues with the haulier/port.


• Resolve any post clearance issues that may arise.


• Make IPAFFS declarations to pre-notify APHA that plant/plant products are arriving in the UK.


• Adhere to appropriate standard operating procedures, ensure the team is up to date with any new regulations and/or processes.


• Make sure clearances are done in a timely manner through setting up and monitoring KPI's.
  
  Previous management/supervisory experience preferred.


• Ability to effectively train others, preferably with experience in doing so.


• Strong organisation skills, ability to prioritise workloads.


• Focused, excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Team player - always willing to help and support others to make sure our customer's needs are always met.


• Customs knowledge and ability to complete a Customs Import/Export declaration in CDS.


• Commercial awareness. Proactive and "can do" attitude.


• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have a strong desire to continuously improve systems and processes.


Desirable skills

• Excellent communication skills


• Minimum of 2 years' experience in Freight Forwarding covering both European and International markets import and export.


• Relevant knowledge of current legislation.


• Have knowledge of how an ETSF operates., A-Level or equivalent (preferred)


Experience:

• Customs: 2 years (preferred)
