If so come join the Department for Transports Cyber Team within the National Security Division (NSD) as a Cyber Vulnerabilities and Research Lead, where you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of critical initiatives to enhance the UKs transport sector's resilience to cyber threats., DfTs Transport Security Directorate (TSD) leads on national security matters, ranging from counter terrorism and cyber security to science and innovation. Within TSD, the National Security Division (NSD) sits at the centre of the departments work to mitigate current and emerging threats. We work across transport modes, HMG and industry to develop policy and regulations to mitigate threats, including:
+ Using policy and regulatory levers to improve cyber security awareness and standards so the transport sector remains safe, secure, and resilient to cyber threats;
+ Understanding and mitigating the cyber risk to our Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and supply chains, particularly from state threats;
+ Building a supportive, diverse and inclusive National Security community across DfT.
The Cyber Team sits within NSD and is responsible for identifying, understanding and mitigating cyber threats and vulnerabilities across the Transport sector. The Cyber Team delivers regulatory assurance functions, development of new regulatory and non-regulatory cyber policies as well as support to the response to cyber incidents affecting Transport. This is underpinned by a comprehensive cyber programme that looks both at immediate and future cyber challenges.
You will run a programme of work that will provide advice on understanding cyber threats and vulnerabilities across the modes of transport and suggest and evaluate options for mitigating the threats or reducing their impact. Please note this is not an operational role.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Be a subject matter expert for a cyber security across all transport modes, providing support and advice both to compliance and policy colleagues.
+ Manage the delivery and exploitation of transport cyber security research and development projects.
+ Technically review and interpret data, including information on cyber vulnerabilities, to make evidence-based recommendations to policy leads.
+ Develop effective partnerships with your counterparts across Whitehall Departments, academia and industry.
+ Maintain awareness of, influence, and leverage relevant cyber security research taking place within the UK and internationally.
For an in-depth insight into the role please refer to the Role Profile., A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
Please note that this role will include regular travel across the UK and there may be limited opportunities for international travel.

The sift is due to take place 10th and 11th February 2025.
Interviews are likely to be held from week commencing 24th February 2025.

This role may attract an additional allowance of up to £5,000 depending on candidate qualifications, skills and experience. This allowance will be non-pensionable and may be reviewed in any contractual agreements., A candidate is not eligible to apply for a role within the Civil Service if the application is made within a 5-year period following a dismissal for carrying out internal fraud against government.
