Full Job Description

We currently have an Industrial Placement opportunity available within the Data and Digital R&D team to start in the summer of 2025. The position is predominantly office based but with the potential to experience laboratory and field data collection. Candidates must be highly enthusiastic about working on a multitude of problems and to work with a variety of data sources across the whole end-to-end data analytics workflow. You will work under the guidance of a line manager and will be supported by a dynamic and diverse team of data scientists, chemists, biologists and industry experts, as well as guidance from external experts in the field of data science (where possible)., We are looking for an enthusiastic full stack data analyst who is wanting to apply their academic learning to solve real-world problems, in an applied industrial environment. The role involves:

  • Working in a maturing Data and Digital R&D Team, within a large multinational organization, to support the wider community in making data-informed decisions by identifying actionable insights from their data
  • Data input, extraction, cleaning, wrangling and analysis of a range of data sets including formulation, testing/performance, and environmental attributes
  • Creating and deploying scheduled / automated data pipelines with well documented code
  • Designing and implementing data visualisations in the form of reports and dashboards, meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders
  • Following existing data project procedures for value management, version control, documentation and reporting
  • Presentation and communication of project work to stakeholders
  • Supporting the data maturity of the wider community through sharing best practice in data literacy

    Expecting a minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent on a course that offers you the option of taking a Year in Industry.
  • Data science or related discipline with demonstrable experience in data analysis (e.g. mathematics/statistics/physics etc).
  • Excellent Excel skills including macro development, pivot tables and data visualization (graphs)
  • Experience writing data extraction and analysis scripts in Python
  • Practical experience of working with SQL databases
  • Experience creating a range of dashboards in PowerBI
  • Fundamental understanding of statistics
  • Enjoys applying data knowledge to real-world applications
  • Has ideas and the energy and determination to make action those ideas
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; particularly communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working in a cross-functional, multidisciplinary and collaborative working environment where supporting colleagues is key
  • Willingness to learn
  • You should be familiar with fundamental data science concepts, but specialized training on focused content will be given during the internship. Any experience in the following would be advantageous but is not expected:
  • The ability to run unit-tests on Python scripts to identify and fix bugs in automation pipelines e.g. pytest
  • Experience with Databricks
  • Awareness of cloud computing platforms e.g. Azure
  • Knowledge / experience in packages for report generation (e.g. Quarto, Reportlab or similar)
