Full Job Description

We're seeking a passionate Data Engineer to join our nine-person IT team. You'll take ownership of the database administration, business intelligence and reporting functions by ensuring the optimal performance, security, and integrity of our databases and their management systems while also leveraging data to provide actionable insights for business decision-making. The role's key responsibilities will include:

  • Design, implement, monitor and proactively maintain database systems to ensure high performance, availability, and security.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document requirements for data storage, analysis, and reporting projects,
  • translating these business needs into technical specifications.
  • Lead the development and implementation of database, data warehousing, and BI solutions, prioritising regulatory and
  • legislative changes, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives in line with the IT Strategy.
  • Design, implement and maintain reports and dashboards based on business requirements and data sources.
  • Analyse data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for business improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Perform regular system audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance with evolving security standards.
  • Develop, implement, maintain and regularly test data backup policies and disaster recovery procedures to maintain data
  • integrity and security.
  • Create and maintain documentation for database, data warehousing, and BI configurations, processes, and solutions.
  • Provide training and support to end-users to maximise system utilisation and efficiency.

    Strong expertise in database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
  • Proficiency in SQL and database scripting languages.
  • Experience with BI and Reporting tools, and data visualisation (e.g., Power BI, Crystal Reports).
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and extract, transform, load (ETL) processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management and organisational abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards.
  • Generate reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify opportunities for improvement.
