Full Job Description

As a data engineer you will work within dynamic teams on a range of strategic projects to transform data for integrating systems and preparing data for analysis, while contributing to needs of data governance.
Data engineers work with data architects, business analysts, software developers and data analysts to ensure the University understands and manages and consolidates its data.
The focus of your work will be on cloud based projects, based on Snowflake, our chosen data platform. The work will also involve working with data hosted in our own data centres.
What sets data engineers apart from other roles is dedication to the modern data stack; developing data pipelines using version control, quality assurance, data lineage and automation.
Data engineers are also expected to contribute to a collaborative environment within and between teams, for example by participating in peer reviews and cross team Community of Practice meetings.
Above all we're looking for people with a positive attitude, who are adaptable and can learn new technologies; we're happy to provide the training necessary to succeed in the role.
The position is offered full-time at 37 hours per week and is available with a flexible hybrid of working from home and in the office.

+ Hands-on experience of SQL
+ Familiarity with data modelling concepts and techniques, such as data entity diagrams
+ Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list.) We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-UK qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
+ Taking ownership for / Hold a significant role in the delivery of distinct pieces of work e.g. leading a project
+ Gather, analyse, interpret and report complex data/information
+ Use digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office
+ Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats, including the use of a variety of digital tools
+ Evidence of upholding our behaviours as specified in the job description.

With specialists focused on Information Technology, Estates Development, Estates Operations, and University-wide Facilities, the Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities collaborates to deliver solutions across both the physical and digital landscapes.
Our primary goal is to provide services and facilities that meet the needs both of the University and the broader community, as well as support the University's strategic objectives and commitment to public good by creating a stimulating learning, living and working environment.
We are in the process of forming a new Data team dedicated to developing our data governance, data engineering and DataOps capabilities. This team will play a crucial role in the University's transformational IT projects.
