Your Role: As a Data and Insight Apprentice you are taking a role within the Group Operations and Platforms Team. Focused on learning all the skills needed in a life of data, analytics and insight, you'll use these skills to help our group operations teams achieve the greatest result possible, particularly for the News Live Team, where you'll be spending a portion of your time. You will play a key role in producing in depth analysis of how we as a business are achieving all while getting to be part of the team creating industry leading events for staff, customers and business leaders alike. News Live is News UK's events division and is responsible for the conception, organisation and production of over 200 events per year for all News UK divisions including Times Media, The Sun and News Broadcasting. They are the team behind some of the Industry's biggest events: The Sun Who Cares Wins Awards, The Times CEO Summit and Virgin Radio Sunset Sessions.

Day to day:

  • Respond to Analytics Briefs: With help from the wider GOP data functions, Support stakeholders by responding to their analytics requests. Analyse data to uncover insights and recommend revenue-generating opportunities based on content, audience behaviour, and relationships with big tech platforms like Apple, Google, and Facebook.

  • Data Processing with SQL: Learn and use SQL to manage and process data sets for clear reporting and analysis. Learn how to navigate and utilise data from our GBQ data warehouse.
  • Present Findings: Learn to become an expert data-storyteller. Share interesting analytics findings with relevant teams, focusing on creating a holistic data story, being able to explain how and why the insights found are powerful from News UK.

  • Build Dashboards: Learn to create dashboards that allow News UK staff to explore data on.

  • Audience Research and Recruitment: Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to efficiently research and recruit new audiences for News UK events, expanding the B2B event audience database.

  • Database Integration: Integrate new audience data with existing databases, such as Times Newsletters, to ensure comprehensive and up-to-date audience lists.

  • Data-Driven Event Planning: Assist in identifying and informing the direction of future events based on data capture insights, working closely with the data team.

    Some experience or exposure to data analysis and reporting.

  • Some spreadsheet skills, particularly in Excel or Google Sheets.

  • Willingness to learn and quickly adapt to new tools such as Tableau, and Google Analytics.

  • Confident in taking initiative and asking questions to clarify requirements.

  • Diligent and considered approach to tasks with strong attention to detail.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above.

  • A keen interest in the media industry and enthusiasm for learning about News UK, its products, and its culture.
