Our Data Vision, is to lead the world's transition to a sustainable and fully decarbonised energy system by unifying and democratising the data and analytical tools needed to enable this transformation; and our Data Mission is to provide internal and external stakeholders with trusted data that is centrally held and easy to understand, with integration with our data products and services, allowing the business and industry the means to exploit this data to create new tools and insights that will enable decarbonisation. The NESO Data Team is a central function that ensures data is available, fit for purpose, and protected so that NESO and the industry can exploit its value and rely on it for its current and future purposes. It provides the tools and frameworks to enable data to be accessed and used in a protected manner. It leads efforts related to Data Culture and Literacy, to ensure we are data-driven as an organisation. Within the Data Governance pillar of this team sits the Data Privacy and Protection team. This role is a key member of that team, responsible for ensuring NESO adheres to regulations related to Data Privacy. This role can be based from Wokingham or Warwick and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.,

  • Ensure compliance with Ofgem Data Best Practices and industry standards and implement data quality practices accordingly.
  • Provide guidance, education, and advice to stakeholders in adhering to the policies and controls surrounding data privacy and data sharing. This includes both adherence to data privacy (GDPR) and data sharing regulation but also to Ofgem's Data Management Best Practice requiring data is presumed "open" for sharing.
  • Provide input into data policies, standards, and controls and related tooling to ensure they are easy to use and understand.
  • Support with data subject access requests by identifying sources and consulting with data owners.
  • Support stakeholders with completion of privacy impact assessments
  • Ensure personal data is retained according to GDPR policy.
  • Keep all necessary artifacts on privacy up to date, example RoPA
  • Produce regular reports for stakeholders and management.

    Evidence of strong stakeholder management experience.
  • Understanding of the responsibilities associated with GDPR, and experience in complying with data and information law.
  • Understanding of data governance practices and the importance of data governance.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and influencing skills. The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and gaining support and commitment from a groups and forums.
  • Experience of working with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders.
  • The ability to communicate complex data policies into terms that can be understood by different audiences.
  • A curious nature mindset with a strong attention to detail and the ability to set and manage expectations with stakeholders and track progress through KPI's and metrics. Ability to self-organise, work independently, show initiative, and problem solve in a timely manner.

About the National Energy System Operator (NESO) In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain's electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system. The ESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users' need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them. The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.

    A competitive salary between £53,000 - 63,000 - dependent on experience and capability.
