Data Tester | Circa £44,100 negotiable + excellent benefits | Permanent | Hybrid

Are you passionate about high-quality products and love delivering E2E customer value? Do you have a keen eye for detail? If so, this may be the perfect role for you. Our Data and Analytics function is growing, and this Data Tester Role is pivotal to support delivery of the Management Information (MI) and Business Intelligence (BI) products to our business and customers.

You'll be performing activities and utilising tools to ensure our data products are high-quality and driven by customer value to improve business processes and to recognize insights within the automotive and motor insurance marketplace. Your North Star will be customer focus and value driven delivery of quality data products.

Your mission

  • Using appropriate tools and methodologies, devise, plan and implement strategies for ensuring the quality of the Insight Hub and other Thatcham Data Products meet business requirements, systems goals and quality standards.

  • Support delivery of robust and reliable ETL/ELT functionality in line with standards set by the Lead Data Warehouse Developer.

  • Produce reports and documentation for testing efforts including results, activities, data, logging, and tracking.

  • Support testing activities for data solutions, including System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing.

  • Ability to define outcomes and measures as the basis for Agile iterations.

  • Submit ideas and proposals for the continual improvement of processes, procedures and infrastructure within QA to improve quality, increase efficiency, reduce risk and provide stability., We understand the benefits of remote and in-person collaboration, and therefore have a hybrid working model - you'll be expected to work from our office in Thatcham at least two days per week.

    With an on-site Crash Laboratory, Repair Technology Centre and Training Academy, our research expertise is driving some of the very latest automotive developments in technology, materials and standards in this fast moving and highly technical industry. Our active safety track site is one of the leading accredited Euro NCAP testing facilities, trialling and assessing the very latest developments in vehicle safety and assistance technologies.

  • Proven experience in the design, development, and implementation of testing solutions and methodologies for software and/or data products

  • Strong practical experience testing a robust data delivery pipeline including ETL & ELT

  • Understanding of Relational database design, implementation and administration

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Structured Query Language and Relational Databases including MySQL, SQL Server and PostgreSQL

  • Experience working to requirements to produce appropriate solutions and providing traceability using agile development tools such as Jira

  • Demonstrable programming skills to support test activities as required (e.g. scripting)


  • Additional skills & experience we'd welcome in our team:
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Data Analysis Tools including (but not limited to) Excel and Power BI

  • Demonstrable knowledge of scripting languages to support testing activities.

  • Knowledge of drag and drop style ETL tools such as Pentaho PDI, Azure Data Factory, etc.

  • Experience in the creation of automated data tests, You have demonstrable knowledge and experience of analysis and design methodologies using appropriate tools, with a passion for Data, and a desire to learn, build and expand your skillset. You enjoy analytical and creative problem-solving and feel comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small team. With extensive practical experience and a strong analytical mind-set, you're able to manage and prioritise your own workload to support multiple simultaneous projects.     Salary - Circa £44,100 negotiable, depending on experience.
