Full Job Description
The DBS Digital Information Team (DIT) support, deliver and maintain a wide range of on premise, Software as a Service (SAAS), Platform as a Services (PAAS) and robotic products for defence.
DIT products support thousands of users across defence and a significant number of key defence activities ranging from:
Oracle Ebusiness Suite for our Finance and Commercial activities
Oracle Fusion (SaaS) for our Civilian Personal HR, Payroll and Expenses activities
Oracle (PAAS) for our Apex and Web services
Remedy for DBS' core change, case and incident management
Solution Interfacing & API connectivity deliver timely and secure data
MI & reporting Services against all of the above
As a DBS DIT Fusion Middleware Administration Support you will be responsible for, but not limited to, providing support to the DBS Fusion Middleware Administrators by:
Ensuring Fusion Middleware services are available, secure, and performing within departmental service level agreements.
Provide 3rd line support for users who raise service calls.
Assisting with the creation or migration of new or cloned databases/application tiers.
Assisting with the maintenance of technical documentation ensuring that it is relevant and up to date.
Liaising with other relevant teams across DIT for incident management, issue resolution (including root cause analysis), lessons learnt and project support
Assisting with maintenance activities and installing updates and bug fixes on a regular basis
Build and administer weblogic environments comprised of various oracle technologies:
Oracle HTTP Server
Oracle Data Integrator
SOA Suite
Oracle Internet Directory
Oracle Access Manager
Oracle Service Bus
Ebusiness Suite Integration
Fusion Middleware facilitates the transport of messages between Oracle E-business Suite and a Supplier Portal
Facilitates integration of MOD inventory systems with E-business suite.
Person specification
Essential
Knowledge or awareness of the following:
SQL, XML and PLSQL.
Jython with ability to edit/create simple scripts.
TOAD, Putty, Weblogic Console, ODI Studio and Enterprise Manager
Redhat Linux command line
Diagnosing issues from log files
Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution. You can think laterally to break a problem down into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes, allowing problem resolution.
Ownership and Initiative. You can take ownership of problems and proactively resolve technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements.
Desirable
Knowledge or awareness of the following:
Oracle Database and Application administration
Supporting Database and Applications on AIX and RHEL
JDeveloper
Java Messaging Service using Store and Forward
Oracle Service Bus process (Getlist/Download/Delete)
Single Sign On (ie Oracle Access Manager and Oracle Internet Directory)

DBS has recently undertaken a review of its operational locations in the North West, and have consolidated all activities in Norcross, Blackpool. A further move, to the new Government Hub at Talbot Gateway in Blackpool, is scheduled to take place in 2026.
