Full Job Description

The volunteer is in hospital primarily to provide extra service to the patients, to make the ward more of a home and less of a clinical environment. Patient confidentiality shall be respected and maintained at all times.
As a Dementia Volunteer you will be taking the time to get to know each patient and engaging them in activities that are tailored to their individual interests and abilities. This can significantly improve the patient's wellbeing and help prevent functional decline., 1. Treat all patients, visitors and staff with dignity and respect. Ascertain how patients wish to be addressed (do not assume it is ok to call a patients by their first name).
2. As directed by the Nurse in Charge, Dementia and Delirium Lead Nurse or designated members of the team engage with patients using activity resources.
3. Selecting and carrying out a therapeutic activity and using this to help the patient beat boredom and promote their wellbeing. This will include a variety of resources such as games, puzzles, colouring and reminisce software.
4. Supporting patients to read, this could include a newspaper, book or greeting cards.
5. Assisting with contacting the person family members either by phone or video calling.
