Full Job Description

To organise and maintain on a daily basis the efficient running of the clinic in line with Community & Special Care Dentistry (CSCD) and Sheffield Teaching Hospital (STH) policies and procedures. Provide support, advice and information for clinical staff and management in order to maintain quality services. You will provide comprehensive dental nurse support and act as a link person for the service and clinical staff providing oral care for clients who are unable to accept routine treatment and who require special care dentistry. You will be assisting in the provision of oral health care including the prevention and health education to individual clients who may have learning or physical difficulties, mental health illness or be medically compromised. Main duties of the job

  • Allocation and operational management of staff within the clinic.
  • Maintain appropriate safe levels of care, ensuring the correct skill mix and balance of staff within your clinic.
  • Support and advise the senior nursing team of potential staffing issues in order to maintain efficient quality services.
  • Recruitment of support staff including the provision and monitoring of their induction.

    National certificate for Dental Nursing or equivalent NVQ 3 in oral health care.
  • Registered with the General Dental Council
  • Post basic qualification in dental radiography equivalent to NVQ level 4

  • In order to undertake the duties of this post it is expected the successful candidate will have extensive relevant post basic experience working in a community dental setting., Ability to work as part of a team, without supervision.

The Community & Special Care Dentistry Service is the main provider of special care dentistry in Sheffield. The service provides dental care in community settings for children and adults who have difficulty accessing dental treatment in general dental practice or who require special care dentistry on a referral basis. The department work closely with the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital across the primary-secondary interface in the provision of consultant led services on referral, including in-reach specialist care within the hospital. We also support undergraduate dental students, clinicians, senior clinicians and specialists in the delivery of dental care and therefore must have a wide experience and knowledge of the clinical working environment and current practices / challenges in order to maintain and utilise an appropriately skilled team of dental care professionals to support service delivery.

    This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 24 months (until November 2026). Where there is potential, the secondment / fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment / fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal / external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.
