Full Job Description

To support the Chief Pharmacist to manage the medicines management (MM) team and co-ordinate the delivery of medicines management services across CWPT.

To support the Chief Pharmacist by taking operational responsibility for the safe, secure, effective provision, management and strategic direction of all aspects of pharmacy and MM services across the Trust.

To provide professional pharmaceutical leadership and expert advice on all matters relating to prescribing and MM services to the Chief Pharmacist, contracted pharmacy service, medicines management team, and individual services and clinicians.

This post does not include any weekend, Bank Holiday or unsocial hours working

The post holder will:

Support the Chief Pharmacist in developing and implementing long term Trust strategy for MM services, ensure services provided are progressive, responsive, efficient, and equitable across all sites.

Support the Chief Pharmacist to fulfil and undertake the statutory duties of Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs, as per The Controlled Drugs (CD) (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2006, including; ensuring the safe handling, monitoring and auditing of the management of controlled drugs, establishing and maintaining clear quick and effective mechanisms for sharing (CD) concerns from patients and staff, investigating cases for concern, directing inspection of specific health care professionals, and determining any remedial actions to be taken.

To ensure the service complies with all mandatory and statutory legislation and to ensure this is evidenced, documented and reported.

To have a level of understanding of complex legislation and professional guidance in order to pre-empt any non-compliance or inappropriate service provision.

To be fully involved in the future planning of MM services for the Trust with regard to developments within clinical units and compliance with national standards and objectives.

Clinical Pharmacist element - To participate as an active member of specific ward or clinical team.

Act as nominated pharmacy lead for research.

Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust's Values

Masters Pharmacy degree, or equivalent

Current and continued registration and membership with The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (practising member)

Specialist clinical post-graduate qualification (eg. Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy or Clinical Pharmacy or willingness to work towards a qualification)

Confident and assertive when dealing with other professionals

A broad technical and pharmaceutical knowledge relating to the promotion of high quality, effective and cost-effective use of medicines

Significant post registration experience.

Experience of working with people with mental health/learning disability problems or similar services.
