Full Job Description
Purpose of role: Deputy Manager to the General Manager leading on the development of our retail offer to reach its full potential in line with our vision and objectives,
- Lead on the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures across the operation (and ensure effective implementation including cash handling, health and safety, buying).
- Lead on specific projects/work streams e.g. Seasonal planning, business planning, business continuity, shop refresh etc.
- Identify and deliver margin-enhancing gains.
- Continually review the range of products on offer, benchmark against category best in class performers of farm shops and ensure robust category plans are developed and delivered in line with the vision/strategy.
- Lead on improving the provenance and integrity of the product offering, in line with the vision.
- Generate new merchandising ideas ensuring that displays are well stocked, maintained and presented to the highest standards and in a manner that enhances sales.
- Lead the team to deliver and sustain high levels of productivity, quality, consistency, exceptional customer service and work with colleagues to build cross functional working/teams.
- Regularly audit compliance to legal requirements, including HACCP, Sale of Alcohol, Trading standards, Health and Safety and Security and take action to resolve issues identified. Report to GM.
- Act as the GM's deputy in their absence managing operations across all teams.
- Ensure expectations and accountabilities are clear and pro-actively manage performance in line with The Crown Estate's performance management system.
- Contribute to budget development and business planning process.
- Manage budgets monthly, reviewing performance and identifying actions.
- Work as a member of the management team contributing to and delivering wider objectives.
- Develop and manage the business continuity plan across the operation ensuring it is well communicated and regularly tested.

- Previous experience in the premium food retail sector with a track record of delivering results.
- Proven experience of financial management and budgetary control.
- Proven experience of developing and implementing operating policies and procedures.
- Excellent communicator, able to communicate clearly and effectively with the team at all levels and with internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to demonstrate strong customer service ethos.
- Able to demonstrate ability to motivate and inspire people at all levels.
- Strong delivery capability, with good organisational and project management skills, with the ability to balance workloads and priorities.
