Full Job Description
Purpose of Role: Deputy Manager to the Farms Manager this role will manage day to day operations including health and safety and ensuring productivity and quality standards are delivered across all operations.,
- Develop and deliver the annual work programme as agreed with the Farms Manager;
- Schedule, monitor and participate in work to ensure programme is delivered.
- Maintain and monitor the quality of yield, whether livestock or crops.
- Ensure crop in store is ready for sale and monitor condition. Coordinate the sale of crop in store to meet budgetary targets.
- Delivering improved biodiversity with a profitable sustainable food production.
- Manage machinery asset list and maintenance schedule to ensure compliance.
- Arrange the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment.
- Lead the team to deliver and sustain high standards of production and animal welfare.
- Ensure that farm activities are compliant with the relevant regulations and standards i.e. Soil Association and Red Tractor Assurance schemes.
- Instruct contractors and monitor to ensure works are delivered safely and to specification.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including communicating the programme of works as required.
- Lead on the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures across the operation (and ensure effective implementation including health and safety).
- Regularly audit compliance to Health and Safety standards and take action to resolve issues identified. Report to Farms Manager and Health and Safety Manager.
- Act as the Farm Manager's deputy in their absence managing operations across all teams.
- Ensure expectations and accountabilities are clear and pro-actively manage performance in line with The Crown Estate's performance management system.
- Ensure learning and development plans are in place for the team to ensuring training is in date and regularly refreshed.
- Working closely with the Farms Manager, prepare and manage budgets, reviewing performance and identifying actions.
- Prepare reports with commentary on KPIs.
- Efficiently maintain administrative records to support CSS and SFI annual submissions (or any future subsequent scheme), government surveys, benchmarking, and wider government agency annual declarations.
- Work closely with the team to ensure delivery our biodiversity and conservation objectives.
- Liaise closely with the Farm shop to ensure timely delivery and quality of produce.

- Experience in modern farming methods of crop production and animal husbandry.
- Knowledge of the principles of organic farming would be advantageous but are not essential.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of land-based health and safety practices.
- Knowledge and experience in maintaining biosecurity.
- Able to demonstrate experience in conservation management with a real interest in biodiversity.
- Excellent communicator, able to communicate clearly and effectively with the team at all levels and with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience of working effectively and collaboratively as part of a management team.
- Knowledge and passion for sustainable farming procedures.
- Able to demonstrate ability to motivate and inspire people at all levels.
- Ability to make decisions using initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Strong delivery capability, with good organisational and project management skills, with the ability to balance workloads and priorities.
- Commercially driven and astute.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- An adaptable and collaborative style.
- Bachelor's degree or HND in agriculture, or equivalent experience.
- FACTS/BASIS qualifications desirable.
- Willingness to work unsociable hours as and when required throughout the year.
- Full driving licence.
- Ability to use various IT systems to plan and record daily operations and maintain records including Gatekeeper.
- Health and Safety accreditation training for example IOSH desirable.
- First aid qualification.
