Full Job Description
As part of the implementation of the 2016 National Terms and Conditions of Service (T&Cs) for junior doctors, the OUH has an appointed Guardian of Safe Working Hours. This Deputy Guardian post (1 PA) will provide additional support to the Guardian and Junior Doctors to ensure that issues of compliance with safe working hours are addressed, as they arise, with the doctor and/or Trust., The Guardian will be a senior person, independent of the management structure within the Trust, responsible for protecting the safeguards outlined in the terms and conditions of service., As a medical or dental practitioner, you will be a Consultant or an Associate Specialist and you will possess knowledge and understanding of the terms and conditions of doctors in training and of Working Time Regulations and safe working patterns and rotas/working patterns for doctors in training. In the role of the Deputy Guardian, you will remain independent from the line management arrangements to ensure you have the confidence of doctors in training and will work closely with the Guardian to provide accountability on the safe working of Junior Doctors to the Trust Board., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
The successful applicant will have good leadership skills, inspiring others to achieve results and collaborate. The post will require you to be sensitive to conflicting information, be able to analyse situations and work with the Guardian to identify solutions. Good facilitation, interpersonal, and negotiation skills are also required.,
- Medical or dental practitioner with postgraduate qualifications or appropriate HR or management qualifications., Minimum Consultant/GP/Associate Specialist level or equivalent senior management level.
- Relevant experience and or employment with a local NHS organisation. Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of postgraduate education and training.
- Previous management experience and training., Enthusiasm for preserving safeguards for the benefit of patients and doctors in training.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Clear understanding of equal opportunities., Knowledge and understanding of terms and conditions of all junior doctors in training.
- Knowledge and understanding of Working Time Regulations and safe working patterns and rotas for doctors in training.
- Facilitation, interpersonal, mediation and negotiation skills in order to promote medical and dental education and challenge practice within the LEP.
- Proven ability in leadership to achieve goals, manage change and deal with constraints.
- Ability to act as an effective champion for safe working. Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of recent developments in medical education and of key issues., You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
