Full Job Description

The Deputy Head Academic will have a deep understanding of early years, key stage one and key stage two pedagogy and have responsibility for developing effective, inspiring teaching and learning ensuring the highest standards of academic progress and attainment across Reception to Year 6. They will work closely with the Deputy Head Academic in the Senior School to ensure smooth transition to the senior school. The role will include but not be limited to the following responsibilities and duties: Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the Head of Junior School and Senior Leadership Team, lead and have strategic oversight on the academic vision and strategy for the Junior School
  • Play an active role in the Junior School Leadership Team, contributing to vision, strategy and policy for Rec - Y6
  • To be responsible to the Head of Junior School for day-to-day internal management, organisation, operation and administration.
  • Work closely with Head of Junior School to develop an outstanding curriculum that is ambitious academically and ensure that the vision of the school is maintained.
  • Work closely with Deputy Head Pastoral to provide outstanding pastoral care alongside co-curricular opportunities, and character and values development - to ensure all girls in the lower school flourish at school and beyond.
  • Line manage teachers and middle leaders. Mentor ECTs as necessary.
  • Lead continuous professional development in the Junior School
  • Lead on curriculum time allocations for each subject throughout the junior school, including the production of balanced teaching timetables.
  • Be responsible for effective communication with teaching staff, learning support assistants, caretaking staff, catering staff and ground staff
  • Establish a collaborative working working relationship with parents.
  • Work collaboratively with the Boys Prep The role Teaching and Learning
  • Promote excellence and innovation in teaching and learning in the Junior School to ensure pupil experience is of a consistently high standard, implementing the teaching and learning policy through exemplar practice, including lesson observations and regular subject monitoring.
  • Work closely with the Head of Junior School, Inclusion lead and subject specialists to ensure all girls achieve their full potential in the Junior School.
  • Be responsible for raising standards through implementing, monitoring and evaluation of strategies, policies and initiatives identified by the Head of Junior School and Senior Leadership Team in the Senior School.
  • Ensure effective tracking of progress and attainment data and ensure effective and compliant reporting to parents. Co-curricular
  • Collaborate with the Phase leaders to ensure an ambitious co-curricular offer and external visits programme to ensure depth and breadth of the curriculum, as well as other events that use shared facilities, time off curriculum or involve parents in school. 4+, 7+ and Occasional Places
  • Work closely with the Admissions team to manage and lead the 4+, 7+ and occasional places admissions process.
