Full Job Description

Dean Close Schools are looking to appoint a Deputy Head of Grounds. This is a full time role, working 52 weeks per year. The Deputy Head of Grounds Person will fulfil a supporting role for the Head of Grounds Care in developing and manging the Grounds Team.

The role focuses more on the maintenance and development of the School's grass and artificial sports pitches, but the person may also assist with maintenance of the School Gardens.

The role and responsibilities of this position are to include:

  • Undertake routine preparation and maintenance of a range of sports and amenity surfaces as detailed on work schedules.

  • Assist with routine care of all designated grounds, gardens and external areas, ensuring tasks are conducted in a timely, efficient and effective manner.

  • Assist with the development and improvement of existing or new sports facilities.

  • Undertake preparatory and cultivation work to maintain safe, quality playing surfaces.

  • Set up sports pitches and amenity surfaces.

  • Undertake minor construction and landscaping work.

We are looking for an experienced grounds person, with a minimum of 3-5 years' experience, and with a valid driving licence to join our team. Ideally, we would like the successful candidate to have a PA1 and PA6 qualification, however, we would consider training the right individual for this course.

Dean Close Foundation is a growing, vibrant and diverse family of independent schools and nurseries, uniting around a shared vision and set of values. These spring from the origins of Dean Close School, which was founded in 1886 in memory of Dean Francis Close, Rector of Cheltenham and educational philanthropist. The Christian ethos of that original school continues today where the aim is that every child should be given the opportunities to flourish, underpinned by its core values of courage, contribution and love which are the guiding principles behind its educational vision. The Foundation currently has five schools and six nurseries within its group, creating a strong community that can share best practice, resources and a secure future.

  • Dean Close Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
