Full Job Description

The Deputy Hostel Manager will manage the day-to-day operation of the project, including the supervision of project staff. They will assist the Project Manager in ensuring that all administrative procedures are completed within timescales., Ensuring that each member of staff is properly supervised, supported and trained with a clear understanding of their responsibilities and performance targets. Ensuring that the requisite professional standards are maintained and that professional activities take place to ensure implementation and evaluation of programmes aimed at meeting the needs of residents. Ensuring that there is always 24-hour cover in accordance with the rota. Taking responsibility for ensuring the procedures for reporting repairs to the building are adhered to and that these are completed within appropriate timescales. Generating monthly budget reports and undertaking regular reports on other service areas for the Project Manager. Ensuring the building and all procedures comply with appropriate health and safety regulations. Ensuring that information on welfare rights and housing options are available and that arrangements exist for the effective processing of housing benefit claims for residents of the project. Liaising on benefit issues with the DWP and Housing Benefit section as directed by the Project Manager Taking responsibility for ordering supplies and for ensuring efficient stock control. Deputising in the absence of the Project Manager. Assisting and participating in training and job development programmes of the department. Being prepared to implement the Council's Equalities policy at a level appropriate to the job and at all times carry out your job in accordance with the Council's Equalities Policy. Taking responsibility for the implementation of, and compliance with, the provisions of legislation relating to the health and safety of such employees and areas of the workplace as fall under your direct control and for complying with legislation relating to such works and contracts as are within your direct responsibility.

Good knowledge of the range of services available to single homeless people (not specific to Brighton & Hove) Clear understanding of the issues related to delivering a 24- hour service in a residential establishment Clear understanding of Health and Safety issues for staff and residents Management Skills - ability to lead, motivate and manage staff on a shift system in a satellite service Ability to organise and prioritise work across a range of service areas Potential to develop high levels of skill in budget development, management control systems, meeting targets and taking action across a variety of budget heads in order to meet performance targets and achieve value for money Highly developed problem-solving skills. Ability to analyse problems quickly and effectively, identify and implement solutions ensuring that objectives are met Ability to constructively negotiate with groups and individuals over resources and performance

  • Excellent communication skills, both written (including reports) and verbal, with the ability to present to a wide range of individuals or groups and chair multi-disciplinary meetings
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience required:
  • Experience of working with one or more of the following: mental health difficulties, personality disorders, rough sleepers, substance/alcohol misuse, self harm, obsessive/addictive disorders, challenging behaviour, ex-offenders and dual diagnosis
