Full Job Description

Leicester General High Dependency Unit is a 6 bedded level 2 unit, with capacity to take level 3 patients to stabilise, ready to transfer to the ICUs cross site. The HDU takes elective patients predominantly from Urology, Gynaecology and Orthopaedics. Your role will be to provide direction and inspirational leadership to the nursing and multi-disciplinary team within HDU, supporting the nursing team through timely appraisals and there are opportunities for project leadership within the team.
The post holder, as an expert clinical practitioner, will be required to be an enthusiastic and integral member of our established and committed team, and to provide and supervise the delivery of excellent patient care., Wider responsibilities include the provision of a supportive learning environment for continuing education; reporting to the Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses and supporting the wider organisation; shift leadership; managing resources and information; coordinating elective and emergency activity, and the provision of care within the Intensive Care Service at UHL., + Act as a professional and clinical role model to all staff, patients, carers and the public at all times.
+ Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of evidence based care to a group of patients according to changing healthcare needs and varying levels of complexity.
+ Act as a clinical resource, mentor / assessor / supervisor / preceptor of learners and staff as required
+ Contribute to setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care to the optimum level and lead the improvement of care, through benchmarking, audit and research.

Whilst working shifts, you must be committed to delivering a high quality service ensuring patient care, safety and experience is paramount. The successful applicants will be expected to participate in effective clinical leadership and management of the team in HDU and demonstrate an ability to manage their time by prioritising and organising their work efficiently., The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in this environment and should ideally have 3 years' experience at working at Band 5 level in a critical care area as well as being in possession of an accredited ICU course. A period of supervision and structured training and support will be available and we can offer a wide range of development opportunities.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
