Full Job Description

The role will involve you being a team leader to a group of band 5 RNs/ band 4 RNAs, and nursing assistants. You will be the line manager for your team, and will supervise them in caring for a team of patients on the ward. You will have overall responsibility for the care of those patients during their admission. In addition to this you will act as nurse in charge on clinical shifts, overseeing all patients and nursing staff on the ward during that shift. You will also hold the senior nurse bleep for the Trauma Service and will work alongside the other band 6 deputies and the clinical education team to support the development of staff on the ward. You will provide support to and deputise for the Ward Sister, in particular with regards to audit activity, incident investigation and roster creation.Working for our organisation Education and evidence-based care underpin all aspects of practice, and to support these goals the service benefits from a clinical education team, a major trauma nurse consultant, advanced clinical practitioner and a clinical nurse specialist for the frail elderly. Research has a high profile within the unit, led by the Senior Nursing Research Fellow, and publications in peer reviewed journals have been achieved over the past ten years.

  • Registered Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice) or National certification in area of Practice.
  • UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an ongoing NMC revalidation.
  • Minimum of 3 years acute care registered nurse experience.
  • Evidence of achievement on a Nursing and Midwifery, (NMC) approved Mentorship qualification.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice., Competent to administer intravenous medicines
  • Competent in care of patients with PCA, NI, chest drains, NG tubes and traction., Previous experience of managing clinical incidents and complaints.
  • Previous management experience of specific clinical area, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
