Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join a fantastic team within General Medicine on Ward 20., + Designated to take regular charge of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental manager.
+ Ensure appropriate use of financial and other resources supporting the ward manager in maintaining a balanced budget.
+ Act as an expert practitioner within the appropriate speciality, participating in direct patient care and demonstrating an advanced level and practice and knowledge.
+ Ensure the effective and timely admission and discharge of patients.
+ Assist in creating a therapeutic environment which meets the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
+ Assist in promoting a critical, analytic approach to delivery of care and implementing changes to approve systems.
+ Participate in audits and implement change, based on audit outcomes
+ Act as preceptor and mentor to junior staff.
+ Lead the team in the absence of the Ward or Department Manager.

Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing a DBS application is met by the successful applicant/s. DBS costs are recovered via salary deduction following starting in post.

The amount would vary depending on the level required: Standard Disclosure £18+£6.50 or Enhanced Disclosure £38+£6.50 (please be aware the additional sum is an administration fee and may increase due to inflation). This will be deducted from your salary, in manageable monthly instalments for up to 3 months following commencement of employment.

You should be motivated, forward thinking in your approach, and possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills. A degree of flexibility in approach is required along with a willingness to learn whilst working in a potentially challenging environment. You must be highly skilled with excellent clinical knowledge, demonstrating a clear understanding of the Trust values and behaviours.
The successful candidate will be required to work shifts on a rotational basis, including night duty.
