Full Job Description
As a Design Authority, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you'll support the provision of new facilities and capabilities, as well as the operation of existing. Day-to-day, you'll the Design Authority team (eight direct reports) in support of the provision of a new out of water submarine maintenance facility.
- Definition of the design intent and provision of the basis of design.
- Oversight and acceptance of design and safety artefacts and configuration to form the reference design.
- Approval for manufacture, build, installation, commissioning, operation (including concessions), maintenance, modification and decommissioning of facilities, assets and operations, including the provision of the basis of operations.
- Principal Designer for Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and Building Safety Act purposes. This role is full time, 35-hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days (ideally more) in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
- Engineering - you will be an excellent engineering leader, capable of operating and engaging at all levels, with expansive technical capability and great verbal and written communication skills.
- Nuclear - you will have a in depth knowledge of nuclear engineering, including high integrity engineering output.
- Submarine Infrastructure - you will an extensive knowledge of the facilities, plant and processes required to enable the deep maintenance of submarines, including the relevant authorisation to permission operations.
- Human - You'll possess great interpersonal and leadership skills - the Devonport site and operations are complex and are delivered by a team of great people. Qualifications for the Design Authority
- Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and have significant relevant knowledge and experience; you'll also be registered as a Chartered Engineer, and likely a Fellow of your institute. Security Clearance The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
