Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a creative Design Engineer to join the NPD department at one of the UK's leading shower manufacturers. Aqualisa has been pioneering showers over the past 40 years and we've always tried to understand what it truly means to have a great shower. Our goal is to transform ambitious plans into tangible and exhilarating realities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of innovative showering products and managing the execution of projects from concept through to completion. What you are already great at:

  • Project responsibilities will be focused primarily on New Product Development with support on other tactical customer products and current product development when necessary.
  • Responsible for New Product Introduction to ensure that NPD activity is delivered on time, on spec and on cost.
  • Responsible for delivering parts, assemblies and design requirements from the concept stage to production.
  • Write Product Design Specifications (PDS).
  • Deliver mechanical assemblies to meet design specifications.
  • Concept design and layout of new showering products to meet functional and cost requirements.
  • Communicate ideas through drawings, sketches, CAD models and physical models.
  • Support with any technical calculations using engineering theory.
  • Work with Industrial Designers to ensure all appearance and ergonomic requirements are met.
  • Design Proof of Principle and Prototype models.
  • Organise the manufacture of models.
  • Set-up tests, fixtures and procedures for testing.
  • Test models and develop reports.
  • Detail development to achieve functional requirement and allow manufacture and assembly of components.
  • Define materials to be used in designs and the manufacturing processes to create them.
  • Specify components in a design that can be sourced from a supplier - liaise and communicate with suppliers.
  • Work with other departments as required to ensure a smooth transition through manufacturing into production., Cultivates Innovation - Always remain curious.

    Excellent track record in design engineering with 5+ years' experience.
  • Good experience in the design of plastic injection moulded components for small to medium volume manufacture.
  • Good working knowledge of plastics and injection mould tooling.
  • Good working knowledge of other manufacturing processes and tooling i.e. die-castings and machined parts (aesthetic & functional applications).
  • "Hands-on" - building of prototypes and product testing in the lab.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical design including PCB's, switches, solenoids, motors etc.
  • Experience of tolerance analysis and clearance and fits review.
  • Good design/engineering qualification to degree level (2:1 or above) from a recognised University.
  • Specific experience on NPD through to manufacturing and production.
  • Experience of working in a high performance and fast paced environment.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Good sketching skills and ability to articulate ideas on paper.
  • Good understanding of design engineering, basic mechanical principles, electronics and how showering products work.
  • A thirst to learn and engage with teams and people of different backgrounds.
  • Creative, solution driven with analytical underpinning - applies thinking quickly.
  • Applies process and common sense to get to desired outcomes.
  • Ability to appreciate and prioritise key issues.
  • High level of general communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Ability to multitask - must be able to work on more than one project at any given time.
