Full Job Description

To build on our success, we are looking for a Design Manager to join our infrastructure team located at the Lower Thames Crossing site office where Skanska will be supporting National Highways to develop this project. The Lower Thames Crossing is a proposed new road connecting Kent and Essex through the UK's longest road tunnel. It is designed to tackle congestion at the 60-year-old Dartford Crossing, make journeys across the region safer and more reliable.

This role will be responsible for the management of a number of design packages, as well as other general design management duties, working closely with other technical disciplines.

You will:

  • Be responsible for management of design in line with the Design Management Plan.

  • Monitor design maturity and provide support to the commercial teams.

  • Be responsible for project monitoring, reviewing, and reporting as well as leading the design interface.

  • Be working closely with the Construction Delivery Lead to provide input and guidance to the designers.

  • Lead and support the implementation of design efficiencies for both cost and carbon.

  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders and the client to ensure designs are reviewed and accepted and that project processes and risk procedures are followed correctly.

    Experience of working on a major multi-disciplinary project.

  • Design management experience in at least one of the following: bridges/retaining walls/highway civils.

  • Ideally, experience of delivering a project to the National Highways PCF process.

  • Degree level qualification and preferably a Chartered Engineer (or close to).

  • Degree or equivalent in commercial related subject.

  • Experience of reviewing and navigating 3D models and Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in the use of information management tools such as ProjectWise, BC and SharePoint.
