Full Job Description

The Education Directorate within Cardiff Local Authority is a service that supports schools and Education Other than at School. It has a wide range of functions which require careful coordination. As well as support for schools and EOTAS there are important partnership and strategic functions.

Naturally the service works closely with Children's services.

Some of the directorates obvious functions are supporting teaching and learning , attendance and Additional Learning Needs. There are many more functions which require a safeguarding overview- for example, admissions, school organisation and planning, outdoor educations, the Youth Service, governor support, ethnic minority support and Elective Home Education.

Cardiff is the first city in the UK to achieve UNICEF Child Friendly City status.

About the job
Link with Education Safeguarding and wider Children's Services teams to support schools and other provisions to comply with safeguarding and child protection duties.

Support multi-agency processes by acting as the education lead representative and undertake key roles in safeguarding review processes.

Coordinate education representation on various groups linked to safeguarding and child protection.

Monitor training compliance.

Monitor and support schools Safeguarding self -assessment.

Chair monthly partnership safeguarding meetings and feedback to senior officers and members.

Oversee the action plan following the recent Joint Inspection of Child Protection Arrangements .

Lead on Safeguarding software development and reporting to influence strategy.

Be part of the team that undertakes statutory responsibilities related to critical incidents.

What We Are Looking For From You
We are seeking an experienced and resolute Safeguarding Officer to take up the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead ( DSL). They will oversee all aspects of safeguarding for the Education Directorate in Cardiff Local Authority. As well as promoting a culture of safeguarding the individual will link with colleagues in Children's Services to ensure the directorate has a clear view of all matters and supports a robust response to concerns. THE DSL will ensure compliance with legal and organisational standards, linking with other partners to provide the directorates contribution to Corporate and Regional Safeguarding .

Salary: EAI 5 - 8 (£45,857 - £49,878) plus 3 SPA (up to £54,166)
