Full Job Description

This is a new opportunity for a Development Manager within Bristol City Leap's Development Team. This role will play a key role in the development of Bristol City Leap's portfolio of low carbon energy projects across Bristol City Council's estate and with other clients, covering the full suite of low carbon technologies including energy efficiency, solar PV, heat pumps, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, batteries etc., from the initial idea or specification stage, through 2 to Investment Grade Proposal and Contract Award. There may also be opportunities for involvement in the subsequent delivery of projects depending on business need and/or the successful candidate's experience and personal development aspirations. There may be the occasional requirement to support Ameresco projects in other locations with associated travel. Strong project and/or programme management as well as excellent technical and organisational skills are fundamental, as is the ability to liaise with people at all levels of the organisation. This position is based in Bristol City Leap's offices in Bristol, United Kingdom. Responsibilities: New Business Development

  • Work collaboratively with Bristol City Council colleagues to identify opportunities for decarbonisation
  • projects on the Council's estate.
  • Proactively respond to incoming enquiries from potential clients.
  • Identify, meet and build relationships with potential clients in collaboration with the Business Development
  • team Strategic and Line Management
  • Overall strategic EVI lead for BCL projects, and supporting Ameresco UK with oversight for EVI technology, to
  • advise on EVI projects outside of BCL. Maintain dashboard summary information on current programme and future opportunities of EVI projects.
  • Line managing Proposal Coordinators who support and lead on different projects, matrix management and
  • collaboration of various colleagues across Ameresco and BCL to progress different opportunities. Maintain resource tracking for direct reports and input into other BCL Development team reporting as required. Consulting to BCC on all aspects of EVI as required, including development of the Council's EVI strategy, advising Highways and electrical teams on current and new EVI. Writing responses to Freedom of Information requests, Member (Councillor) enquiries and complaints.
  • Maintain Client Relationships at a programme level, delegating to others where required
  • Support the development of the BCL 'Project Acceptance Criteria' process to increase progress of projects
  • reaching signed contracts. Project Development:
  • In collaboration with Ameresco's Development team:
  • o Identify potential Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) at customer sites o Carry out energy audits and surveys o Prepare preliminary business case including capital costs and energy savings for each ECM o Attend regular client project meetings High Level Appraisals:
  • In collaboration with Ameresco's Development team:
  • o Assessment of existing system configuration and operation at client sites. o Compilation and analysis of data o Conceptual design of energy related projects o Desktop energy modelling o Building heat loss analysis o Preliminary constructability assessment and project risk assessment o Prepare capital and operating cost budgets o Detailed energy savings calculations o Preparation of final report and presentation 3 Investment Grade Proposals
  • Further definition of solutions from High Level Appraisal stage including on-site assessments as necessary
  • Project risk assessment
  • Finalise solution selection
  • In collaboration with Ameresco's Engineering team:
  • o Prepare full equipment list with performance/sizing/selection for key energy equipment, all major pipework lines, pumps (including pressure capabilities), heat exchangers including definition of control philosophy o Produce an outline work package for contractor to provide pricing and assess accordingly o Develop savings calculations and pricing to +/- 10% for project capital approval People are important to our business and therefore the ability to interface with other disciplines within Bristol City Leap and Ameresco, including the Business Development and Engineering teams, is a vital skill that we look for in all members of our team.

  • Previous experience in a Project Management or Development role - see Minimum Qualifications.
  • A recognised formal project management qualification (PMP/APMP or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of low carbon technologies such as energy efficiency measures, solar
  • PV, heat pumps, electrical vehicle charging infrastructure, etc.
  • Commercially awareness and experience of negotiating with equipment suppliers and installation
  • contractors. The ability to:
  • Manage a range of projects types and complex business cases to deliver high quality outcomes under
  • pressure.
  • Capability to provide timely, accurate and relevant project and portfolio reporting as required.
  • Monitor and report on project development budgets across the portfolio.
  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including technical experts
  • and decision-makers.
  • Advanced IT skills in relation to Word, PowerPoint and Excel and MS Project or other project tools.
  • Personal Attributes: The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident and have a flexible approach to work. They will be customer focused, passionate about energy efficiency and renewable energy. They should be able to demonstrate good organisational skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritise work under pressure and complete within deadlines. Minimum Qualifications: Relevant degree, e.g. engineering, or relevant equivalent industry or vocational qualification AND/OR; a minimum of three years' experience in a role involving the development of business cases for energy efficiency/renewable energy
