Full Job Description

Our Applied and Regulated Development team is responsible for development, optimisation, release and maintenance of regulated platforms for ONT and applied clinical applications in partnership with OND. Within that, the Applied Platform Development team are responsible for developing, releasing and maintaining the applied platform, involving the core modules of sample preparation kits, devices and software. The Applied Platform Workflows team focuses on building onto the platform and to utilise the assets of the platform to complete an end-to-end workflow for the customer. This role will suit someone with lab-based skills who is willing to learn and who is motivated to achieve results. This role will be evenly split between office and lab-based tasks., Laboratory Support:

  • Assist with the development of applied platforms and workflows at ONT.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments related to development and verification.
  • Support the maintenance and organisation of laboratory to ensure good lab practices.
  • Data Analysis:
  • Analysis of large datasets using analytical software
  • Generation of data visualisations
  • Scientific communications and report generation from data analysis
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with development scientists within and outside the Applied Platform Workflows team.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for internal and external audiences as required. Participate in team meetings to provide updates on the status of projects.


  • The Applied Platform Workflows team are looking for a highly motivated individual with good lab-based skills to join our team as a Development Scientist., Required:
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in a biological discipline (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology).
  • Good understanding of molecular biology principles and techniques.
  • Wet-lab experience:
  • + General GLP (Good Lab Practices) + General lab Health and Safety + Following SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) + Use of lab equipment (Thermocycler, centrifuge etc) + Use of general and multi-channel pipettes + DNA/RNA Purification (Bead Purification (SPRI)) + DNA/RNA Quantification and dilutions
  • Strong scientific presentation skills and report writing
  • Coordinated organisation skills and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Desirable:
  • Good understanding of commercially available ONT platforms and library preparation kits.
  • Experience working with ONT technology
  • Experience with command line/scripts or programming languages Experience working in a QMS environment (ISO 9001 and/or 13485).
  • This role will suit someone willing to learn and who is motivated to achieve results.
