Full Job Description

The Customer Mid-Level Engineer will be responsible for maintaining our cloud-based infrastructure along with the CI/CD Pipelines. You will also provide support to other engineering teams across Admiral's value streams. We are looking for an enthusiastic, inquisitive and experienced individual, who adopts a collaborative mindset and can think creatively to solve problems and meet technical requirements. You must have a keen interest and awareness of cloud engineering and related concepts and be ready to research, evaluate and learn new tools, technologies and patterns as required. Main Duties You will be working in our Customer Spoke platform engineering team, which is responsible for provisioning and maintaining the platform supporting the Agile Release Trains in the Value Stream under the guidance of Senior Engineers, supporting the software engineers by automating aspects of the SDLC through CI/CD and contributing to the delivery of the DevOps and Cloud capability's strategy. As part of this your main duties will comprise of:

  • Delivering Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to meet the Value Streams requirements.
  • Applying specific quality standards to all tasks undertaken to ensure that deliverables are accurate and complete.
  • Documenting all work using required standards, methods, and tools.
  • Taking an automation first approach to CI/CD.
  • Having a passion for learning and demonstrating best practices for Cloud Engineering.
  • Applying agreed standards and tools as required, to achieve a well-engineered result.

  • Supporting and maintaining existing solutions and identifying/remediating technical debt.
  • Contributing to improvements of our technical excellence and ways of working within Squad, Chapter and Guild forums.
  • Reviews own and other engineers' code/work, ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Provide advice and support on Cloud Engineering when required.
  • Ensuring deliverables adhere to our alerting, monitoring, and logging strategy.
  • This is not a full definition of the role but covers the main aspects and drivers for success., For Hybrid workers (within a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to work from the office twice a month. For remote workers (outside of a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to attend the office a handful of times a year when required (i.e big meetings, workshops etc).

  • Experience of managing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform/Terragrunt.
  • Experience working with GCP.
  • Experience in automation scripting and programming languages.
  • Experience of CI/CD concepts and usage of tools such as Jenkins/Azure DevOps.
  • Experience or understanding of GKE.
  • Experience of version control systems such as Git.
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience using Azure DevOps for CI/CD.
  • Hands-on experience or understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) tools and technologies, including Cloud Storage, Cloud.
  • Experience working with MemoryStore, Networking, Secret Manager, IAM.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages (for example, Python, Bash, Ruby, Java or Go).
  • Experience or understanding of tooling such as JFrog Xray.
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
  • Understanding of Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • Understanding of networking concepts.
  • Understanding or experience of security best practices in the cloud and cloud security tooling such as Checkov or Nexus IQ.
