Those businesses provide services that millions of customers across the UK rely upon, day-to-day and especially in their time of need.

What you'll do

  • Our engineers are passionate about ensuring the services, both internal and external have unwavering reliability, uptime appropriate to users' needs, resiliency, architectural simplicity, as well as continually seeking to find improvements. It is up to the leads build on that desire and passion.

  • Opportunities to work on complex challenges, while using expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity/forensic analysis, technical architecture, and various system design strategies to address those challenges.

  • Significant focus will be on optimising existing systems on Azure, building new Azure PaaS and IaaS solutions for services currently not running on Azure and eliminating manual work through automation wherever feasible. A further stage will be to apply those skills to GCP, but the immediate need is with Azure.

  • Opportunities where a 'Lead' will be expected to help:
  • Production Kubernetes experience and debugging all services that run within the K8s ecosystem, including Istio service mesh with Envoy

  • Helmfile & Helm Charts writing comprehensive helm charts from scratch

  • SRE mentality (SLI, SLO & SLA) using Observability, Logging, Monitoring & Alerting ( Dynatrace)

  • Docker and Container Management & Security scanning (e.g. Aquasec)

  • DevOps tooling - Code Quality (SonarQube) & Artefact (NexusIQ/Artifacts) & Auto/Load tests

  • Network L3-7 management, DNS, transport security with PKI lifecycle management

  • Data Migration Tools & Knowledge of DB Schema lifecycles

  • Azure Resource Manager (ARM) Templates & Blueprints & Bicep or Terraform

  • Azure DevOps or Harness.io with hands-on designing code-based CI/CD Pipelines

  • Chaos Engineering, Day-2 Ops, Resiliency and Disaster Recovery Planning and execution

A lead engineer within the field of SRE or DevOps with exceptional understanding of SRE & DevOps and can explain in critical detail to your mentees

  • Deep Kubernetes experience (Istio AKS an advantage)

  • Ideally coming from a software engineering or exceptional scripting skill background and have moved into SRE/DevOps while gaining a wider understanding of application ecosystems.

  • Experience programming in at least two (but not all!) of the following languages: Java, Groovy, Scala, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript, .Net, PowerShell or Bash/Shell.

  • Knowledge of Azure or Dev cloud platforms.

  • Very strong expertise in DevOps tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub Sonar, Nexus, and Git

  • Technical architecture and Microservice design principles.
