Full Job Description

Able to organise and manage the unpredictable nature of referrals to pre-pregnancy,antenatal diabetes, and maternal endocrine service. Organise and coordinate outpatient clinics for the services, ensuring appropriate follow on care is organised. Represent both diabetes services at local, regional, and national meetings andconferences. Attend the relevant forums in Maternity to share best practice, service improvements andthe relevant outcome data. Co-ordinate team representation at Clinical Audit and professional meetings within thehospital and community and disseminate information to ensure effective communication.Act as point of contact with clinical director for National Pregnancy in Diabetes Audit(NPID). Ensure effective and efficient use of all resources. Be aware of budgetary responsibilitiesand ensure adequate systems are in place for maintenance of equipment and resources. Propose changes to working practice incorporating national and local recommendations,guidelines, targets, and
available resources. Assist in the implementation of nationaldiabetes and maternity strategies and recommendations. The post holder will work closely with the senior midwifery team to further develop relatedpathways and guidelines to assure appropriate and responsive care to women, babies,and their families. Contribute to specialist guidelines and policies for own area, includingleading and contributing to the way diabetes maternity services in the local area areorganised. Influence and nurture positive attitudes and behaviours within the teams and widermultidisciplinary team. Actively contribute to change management in partnership with the multidisciplinary teamto ensure the development of plans that meet targets set by Government initiatives.Provide specialist support, education and training to midwives and other team membersenabling them to exercise professional judgement in caring for women with diabetes. Take action to ensure that all clinical risks and complaints are identified,
reported withinthe clinical risk reporting framework and monitor outcomes, which include theinvestigation of incidents and complaints within the maternity services and feedback tostaff to ensure lessons are learnt. Appropriately reassure and counsel clients, partners, and other relatives. Deal with challenging behaviour and impart distressing news. Need to communicatehighly sensitive information especially where barriers to understanding/acceptance needto be overcome. Maintain personal professional profile with a reflective practice record in preparation forrevalidation. Continually audit own practice in specialist field, participate in qualityassurance reporting. Co-ordinate the responsibilities, capabilities, and workload of any team members
