Full Job Description

The post holder will already have an easy rapport with people and have good organisational skills. You will be someone who enjoys patient contact, and who can make a clinic visit a positive experience for anyone with diabetes and will work on a one to one basis with patients for much of the day and will be responsible for both examining and gathering information from patients to support the clinical assessment of whether or not diabetes eye disease is present., The person specification below is not the full person specification but outlines the criteria against which your application form will be assessed.

You will need no prior skill in diabetes eye screening and will be trained by us. This training will include the use of eye screening software initially and later on using the retinal camera. In time the post holder is expected to enrol in, and then to undertake the Health Screening Diploma, supported by local training and mentoring. When fully trained you will be expected to rotate between screener, photographer and receptionist roles, and at times undertaking database entry.
Screener Photographers will have a main base where they are predominantly located, but must be flexible, and able to work across any other screening location as required by the service.

We are looking for a Retinal Screener / Photographer for our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme in North East London area (City and Hackney, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.
The post-holder will deliver a consistently high quality care for the service for the patient with diabetes. The role requires you to work unsupervised within a community based environment; you will be working in a team with team leaders support.
Diabetes is the most common chronic illness affecting people in East London. The detection and early treatment of diabetes-associated problems can prevent disability and premature death. The Diabetes Eye Screening Service aims to detect and offer early treatment to people
with diabetes who are developing sight threatening eye disease.
