Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term maternity cover for 10 months as Band 8a Team Leader Highly Specialist Dietitian position within the immunology, cancer and infectious disease service at the world-famous Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, NHS Foundation Trust. The oncology service is a national center for patients requiring multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment for the management of complex cancer and immunological disease, including children undergoing bone marrow transplant. This role includes providing dietetic cover to both the inpatient service and outpatient assessments, providing expert dietetic input to treatment plans, leading on dietetic led clinical assessments. The post holder will lead a team of highly specialist dietitians and rotational dietitians to continue to provide a world-class expert service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work as part of a large and supportive MDT team and have the opportunity to develop audit, outcomes and clinical service evaluation to improve practice. Opportunities may include teaching and representing the service at a national and international level.,

  • To be responsible for the organisation and maintenance of the job plans including the annual review process for Dietetics staff working in the BCC team.
  • Responsible for producing and developing relevant operational KPI data (e.g. clinical outcomes, PREMs, PROMS).
  • Responsible for ensuring audits, service evaluations and research are planned and delivered within BCC dietetics. Ensuring a consistent and reliable service is delivered for all children managed by BCC dietitians with supporting evidence provided through audit and service evaluation
  • Ensuring all patient information and other educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust are regularly updated and meet the Trust guidelines. Lead and develop patient resources for GOSH and national use
  • Lead and contribute to policy development and ensure implementation of these policies
  • Leading and organising the training and support of specialist dietitians in all aspects of nutritional management
  • To ensure the team are responsible for teaching diet service technicians, dietetic assistants, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of nutrition and dietary management of specialist diet therapy through informal tutorials and formal study days.
  • Freedom to act interpreting the Health and Care Professions Council code of conduct and working to all agreed standards, policies and procedures within the department and the Trust
