Full Job Description

As a Digital Forensic Technician, you will be involved in the most challenging and interesting cases of digital forensics work and will be directly involved in the investigation of serious crime supporting various investigation teams across Hampshire and the IOW. You will undertake forensic acquisitions in accordance with the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) guidelines and our ISO 17025 accreditation in line with the Forensics Regulators Code of Practice. This is a practical role, which requires disassembling of digital devices and the ability to comprehensively document actions taken. All successful candidates will be given a bespoke training programme including a dedicated mentor, internally led core competency training and external specialist training courses. All applications must be aware that they will have to work with child abuse material on a frequent basis, both internal processes and external assessments will support your wellbeing in this area. About The Role: Your
role will be to support the Digital Forensics Group by maintaining flow of exhibits through the unit and completing early analysis of exhibits to determine the best course of action by using comprehensive triage processes. Reporting the results internally and externally. Responsibilities will be but not limited to: - To Ensure effective processing of exhibits in/out of the exhibits, complete administrative records, organise exhibit storage, carry out back ups and maintain equipment - To carry out triage of exhibits submitted in any one case to ensure negative exhibits are eliminated at an early stage and only cases with high evidential potential are further examined - To Schedule work in an effective manner and communicate results clearly - To keep abreast of changes of technology and forensic developments - To provide technical advice to officers. - To effectively manage work load to meet deadlines and court set timescales. - To give regular and effective service. Unit Specific Accountabilities: - To ensure that exhibits are processed and evidential data is extracted in a timely manner ready for onward examination by Examiners - To manage the viewing of evidential data by the officer in the case. - To carry out low level examinations and produce detailed reports and evidence. - Advise OIC as to the relevance of the evidence in relation to the computer and case as whole. Educated to QCF Level 3 in an IT subject OR work experience deemed to have brought the postholder to a comparable level
