Full Job Description

Surrey & Sussex Police Digital Forensics Department are looking to recruit into our fast-paced Tier 1 Technician Team. Hours of work will be on a Flexi Time basis doing office hours, Monday to Friday - 37hrs per week. The role will support front line policing investigations through the examination of mobile devices. This involves providing tactical and technical support and advice in relation to digital examinations and reviewing of data. You will carry out the logical, physical and manual examinations of mobile devices to support policing investigations in line with service level agreements. Through engagement with investigating officers, you will provide advice to ensure examinations are targeted and proportionate in support of the investigative strategy. You will extract, manage, file and store data in the appropriate storage medium, providing a product to support investigations. You will be responsible for providing technical support to investigating officers viewing evidential data and assist in the overview of evidence available. You will need to ensure the correct handling of exhibits, maintain continuity and integrity and to ensure all movements and examinations are fully recorded on the case management system. You will be required to work to standard operating procedures in line with ISO 17025 standards of accreditation. You will have responsibility for providing tactical and technical support to users of self-service kiosks/forensic workstations, ensuring all enquiries are dealt with effectively and promptly. This will also include completion of audits and maintenance of hardware and software equipment., We are only as good as our people. Good standard of secondary education (GCSE's A-C grade/or equivalent) including Maths and English or equivalent by recent, relevant experience. - Proven IT skills with experience of using a wide variety of computer software applications. - Self-motivated and proven experience of working to deadlines with minimal supervision. - Ability to manage high workloads and adapt to changing demands and competing priorities. - Good interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively with customers, challenging appropriately where required. - Strong attention to detail. Proven problem-solving skills including analysis and interpretation. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills including report writing. - Ability to learn to use specific digital forensic software applications with an aptitude for continuous learning and professional development. - Awareness of exhibit handling and procedures including continuity and integrity. - Capable of absolute discretion when dealing with casework of a highly sensitive and confidential nature. - Full UK Driving licence.

This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions. Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions. Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.
