Full Job Description
This is a senior role within the organisation with the assigned specialist and professional leadership acting as midwifery IT specialist when representing internal and external meetings on behalf of Northampton General Hospital. They will have the ability to establish good team relationships and collaboration within Northampton General Hospital colleagues and local maternity systems.
The post holder will be the Lead Midwife for IT with ownership and responsibility for the co-ordination and collation of data with colleagues in the maternity, IT department and external agencies where required.
To work with clinical informatics, business managers and finance to assess the benefits of initiatives and local technology projects in order to implement. The post holder will be responsible for identifying and leading significant service and operational transformation, including standardisation of maternity systems and processes, service transition and benefits realisation.
To undertake regular Senior Midwifery Manager on-call duties as a senior midwife., Clinical
· The post holder will ensure clinical practice is supported by digital technology.
· To ensure that the maternity IT system functionality is adhered to support practitioners professional standards
· To support the digital agenda within the Better Births and long term plan reports.
· Maintain competencies relating to digital leadership by attending regular updates such as local user group initiatives and the national Digital Midwives Expert Reference Group.
· Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding the use of digital technology.
· Ensure the relevant data is captured and maintained as a collaborative approach with the wider Multidisciplinary team to meet both National and local standards., Northampton General Hospital is one of the largest employers in the area and we are on an exciting journey. Maternity Information
· Work towards the ambitions of Better Births to evaluate the maternity IT system and its abilities to meet the recommendations.
· Utilise a variety of information technology systems and databases to assist with data collation and audit processes.
· Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding the use of digital technology.
· Review, monitor and develop processes and systems to support accurate and reliable data quality for internal and external assurance, local commissioning and local, regional and national datasets.
· Coordinate and liaise with other departments to ensure the timely delivery and quality and reliability of maternity data
· Ensure the relevant data is captured and maintained as a collaborative approach with the wider Multidisciplinary team to meet both National and local standards.
· Ensure and maintain confidentiality and integrity of all confidential information
· Maintain competencies relating to digital leadership by attending regular updates such as local user group initiatives and the national Digital Midwives Expert Reference Group
· Produce results and findings in a variety of formats, including reports, papers, spreadsheets and presentations.
· Present results and findings to various teams, committees, forums and relevant groups.
· Utilise and interpret data to compose clinical and management audits and reports.
· Make recommendations for change and action plans in response to data and audit results.
· Report and escalate any issues or challenges that arise, which are outside of your scope of practice or remit.
· Support the submission of data for MSDSv2
Management
· Review and evaluate information systems to assess for both clinical and technological fitness for purpose
· As a member of the Senior Midwifery Management Team, you will be expected to partake in strategic and operational commitments, including on-call provision and a member of the senior midwifery team.
· Chair the Maternity and IT Strategy Meeting
Communication and Relationship
· Develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues and ideas and/or in complex situations.
· Communication is a fundamental process to ensure continuity and high standards of service. It includes sharing ideas, information and feedback in order to empower staff and members of the interdisciplinary team.
· Skilled in communicating with a range of people on a daily basis some of who may have communication barriers.
· To be responsible for disseminating important messages, memos, updates and information as required to the staff
· Provides feedback to other workers on their communication at appropriate times
· Ensuring that open, respectful communication is the benchmark of all communication
· Develop processes which clearly articulate how departmental operation and strategic objectives are monitored and reported with areas of responsibility.
Responsibility for Analysis and Judgment
· Gather, analyse and report a range of data and information
· Demonstrates an understanding of research and development and how this influences midwifery practice
· Input patient data in the correct form and manner whether this be primary or secondary information onto the supporting computer system
· Analyse and report information provided through appropriate clinical equipment and act upon this gathered information
· Maintain the integrity of information using agreed methods and procedures
· Reports the data/ information clearly in the required format and at the time agreed
· A key responsibility will be to utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with women and those involved in their care
· The post holder must also communicate with other staff within the Trust, with external organisations and with the general public.
· The post holder must be able to explain strategy and organisational decisions to everyone in the organisation
· Takes a proactive role in producing accurate and complete records of activities and communications consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
· Produces quarterly report to the Maternity Governance Group
Responsibility for Planning & Organisation
· Plan and organise activities to implement the quality agenda.
· Promoting a multidisciplinary collaborative approach to quality through audit
· Organise, prioritise and adjust one's own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality.
· Provide visible accessible leadership to support the management of change and act as an effective role model, mentor and coach promoting excellence through practice.
· Generate and use appropriate learning opportunities based on research evidence and apply own leaning to the future development of maternity practice.
· Actively work towards achieving standards set by the division and be pro-active in identifying areas in need of improvement
· To be the IT lead for maternity in the Trust's digital strategy.
· To work alongside other department in adopting IT strategies to support the digital growth and operational running of IT systems across Women's Services.
· To support the implementation of IT projects in the unit, to meet the needs of service users, service leads and the wider national agenda.
Responsibilities for Patient / client care
· Support and advice divisional and clinical leads to develop and implement clinical policies and guidance in line with best practice, national and local policy and in relation to the recommendations of serious incident or claims investigations.
· Support the delivery and development of safe effective systems of care for the women and their families who use the maternity service.
· To work clinically at least one shift a week or as the service requires
· To promote and ensure safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
· Generate and use appropriate learning opportunities and apply own leaning to the future development of maternity practice.
· Maintain and develop personal competencies and knowledge of relevant issues.
· Maintain a professional portfolio in line with the trust guidance and that of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Responsibility for Financial & Physical Resources
· Responsible for the allocated Budgets in the service. Monitoring and overseeing of allocated budget.
· Responsible for signing off expenses
· Responsible for purchase of the Assets and orders supplies.
· Ensure the effective management of the Asset Register and the equipment replacement programme.
· Co-ordinate bids and business cases for Capital Equipment
· Provide support to the Director of Midwifery & Gynaecology Nursing in meeting performance targets and service level agreements providing advice, analysis and information as required.
· Work in close association with the Division's Finance Manger to ensure sound financial management, effective communication and financial reporting
· In conjunction with the Director of Midwifery & Gynaecology Nursing and Divisional Director, identify, communicate and implement a robust Cost Improvement Programme
Clinical Governance/Risk management
· To develop and participate in clinical audit.
· To assist and support the continual review, development and improvement of maternity services through audit.
· Utilise data and audit to support the development of an evidence-based culture and implementation of research and evidence based protocols and guidelines.
· To assist in the maintenance, monitoring and evaluation of standards of care and recommendations from national and professional bodies
· To assist in the achievement and monitoring of quality standards as stated within Care Quality Commission and Essence of Care.
· To participate in the review of IT related incidents, including Datix, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Serious Incidents (SI) involving maternity within the Trust., · To support education and training programmes, utilising data, information and audit results and findings as relevant
· Deliver presentations and information as required to a variety of audiences.
· To attend statutory and mandatory annual training
· To attend local, regional and national NHS Digital meetings.
· To attend training as deemed necessary and pertinent to the role
