Full Job Description
Our Media's specialist content informs millions of readers per year about the products and services that enable them to get the most out of their interests and hobbies. Across market leading brands like BBC Countryfile Magazine, Bike Radar and Gathered we test and review products, helping readers understand what performs well, what doesn't, and importantly what's worth spending their hard earnt money on. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Digital Reviews Writer to join the Affiliate team at Our Media. This role will focus on reviewing outdoor gear with a focus on hiking, camping, trail running and all other activities that our outdoors enthusiast audience are keen to know more about. Reporting into the Affiliate Content Manager, this role will largely be aligned with BBC Countryfile Magazine but will work with other titles within the OM portfolio when opportunities are presented. The Digital Reviews Writer will be responsible for the end-to-end process of gear reviews, from identifying the products all the way through to the publishing of the article. The correct candidate will have a demonstrable passion for all things outdoors coupled with an in-depth knowledge of the outdoor gear market and the wider outdoor industry. This role will play a central role in our ambition to turn BBC Countryfile Magazine into the market-leading resource for outdoor gear reviews in the UK. - Experience in writing product reviews, preferably within the outdoor gear or related industries (e.g., sports, adventure, or lifestyle).
- A strong personal interest in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, trekking, or mountaineering.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to produce clear, engaging, and informative content. Proven track record of writing for digital platforms.
- Deep understanding of outdoor gear, its functions, features, and benefits.
- Ability to conduct thorough research, gather user reviews, and compare products to provide the most accurate and comprehensive information.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices, keyword research, and optimizing content for search engine ranking.
- Comfortable using content management systems (CMS), tools for keyword research (e.g. Ahrefs), and product review platforms.
- Strong ability to spot technical specifications and distinguish between subtle differences in product design and performance.
- Ability to communicate complex product details in a clear, concise, and accessible manner.
- Able to work independently and manage deadlines effectively.
- Experience of building relationships with internal and external stakeholders Desirable
- Experience with Apple News and Google Discover
- Experience in promoting written reviews or content across social media platforms to increase engagement.
- Familiarity with basic editing tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom) for enhancing product images.
- Ability to take high-quality photos or videos of outdoor gear in use is a plus.
- Relevant certifications or training (e.g., wilderness survival, first aid) are beneficial but not required.
