Full Job Description

  • Build and maintain an aligned, outcome-based Digital strategy that supports BT Group's strategic ambition to become a digital and AI-first, customer-led, platform-based business.

  • Research and integrate the latest industry innovations, external insight and peer activity into the strategy and roadmap, serving as a sparring partner to other members of the DLT.

  • Understand, in depth, BT Group's corporate strategy and the implications for Digital by working in close collaboration with Strategy & Change at BT and other units strategy teams.

  • Work with Strategy & Change to ensure strong connections between Digital's outcomes and strategic priorities and BT Group's corporate and unit's strategy.

  • Ensure that Digital's annual investment and business plan is aligned to the strategy, with clear articulation of technology and commercial choices and trade-offs

  • Define and lock-in challenging multi-year outcome-based targets (OKRs / KPIs) that will enable the strategy, including targets for workforce sizing, productivity, supplier costs, efficiency, transformation, AI/Gen AI and growth

  • Build and run a multi-year Digital roadmap (including the investment in technology enabled transformation), identifying clear 'moments of truth' and critical decision-points

  • Work closely with the Change team in Strategy & Change to ensure the Digital roadmap is properly integrated into other units' transformation programmes

  • Work with the rest of the DLT to ensure that their work - for instance Digital's platform-based architecture - is consistent with the strategy and Digital roadmap

  • Engage multiple stakeholder groups internally and externally in the Digital strategy and its outcomes, up to and including Board level, always well aligned with the overall BT Group corporate strategy

  • Visionary Communication, working with Comms, develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy to articulate the Digital Strategy ensuring alignment and utilising all channels to inspire and engage employees in the pursuit of our shared goals

  • Experience you'd be expected to have

  • Experience in the telecommunications industry

  • Experience in strategic direction setting in large tech organisations

  • Ability to effectively navigate complex organisations and drive results in matrixed environments.

  • Experience in the strategic application of AI, Data and technology platforms

  • Engages with conviction and authority at Board level

  • Experienced in leading senior managers in strategy and transformation functions effectively

  • Agree and recommend the strategy and roadmap to the CDIO for final sign off

  • Decide on whether the annual investment strategy (Digital MTP) will deliver the strategy (including a formal right to agree on annual investment plan)

    The Digital Strategy Director defines and runs the strategy for BT's Digital division. Aiming for BT to become a digital and AI-first telco, a platform powerhouse with technology as a differentiator. The role will align annual CapEx and OpEx investment to modernise BT and deliver the Digital strategy and set the strategic enablers for value from Data & AI.

    The role will need to Influence and align BT Group's and business unit's strategy and manage internal and external stakeholders at Board level.
