Full Job Description

The is an exciting role that covers a broad spectrum of environmental topics, requiring significant stakeholder engagement both internally with DIO, USVF, Industry Partners and external regulatory authorities such as the Environment Agency, Natural England, and Local Authorities. This is a brilliant opportunity to build your skills and develop hands on experience in the management and protection of Great Crested Newts, numerous bird species, bats and badgers. The role supports the RAF Commander including specialist project support for site investigations, remediation, and spill response. The wide-ranging delivery requirements include support to construction projects, facilities management, estate development proposals and safeguarding to ensure delivery of MoD and DIO environmental and sustainability policy. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week., Leadership and Management
+ Ensure local compliance with mandatory requirements e.g., MOD Policy and training.
+ Promote strong working relationships both with the team and with other teams across DIO, MOD, Contractors, and United States Visiting Forces.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
+ Provide advice and support to stakeholders on Environmental and related issues.
+ Act as the Environmental Protection agent and advisor to the RAF Commander.
+ Liaison with external regulators and other stakeholders regarding environmental, heritage and cultural issues affecting the estate.
Project Management
+ Provide specific environmental technical support and advice.
+ Attendance and participation at contractually required meetings.
+ First point of escalation for project/site/user environmental issues.
+ Review Environmental Appraisals and specialist reports for projects.
+ Act as Project Manager on environmentally related projects and works services for contaminated land, pollution prevention, and other related projects.
+ Be aware of wider strategic management of the estate and raise risks and issues in area of responsibility.
Policy and Assurance
+ Monitor compliance with MoD and DIO policy, instruction, and guidance, take actions to monitor and identify recommendations to improve compliance, operation efficiency and the policy framework, escalating significant risks and issues up the policy Governance chain.
+ Regularly liaise with assurance and DIO and Industry Provider teams.
+ Ensure records of all Base activities with environmental significance are kept up to date (including discharge consent registers, pesticides, de-icing, and spill-incident records) and compile Business Unit Environmental Monthly Returns.
+ Ensure DIO Environmental Management Systems data, i.e., registers, management plans, spill incident and waste management records are maintained for audit purposes. Obtain, manage, and renew all necessary licences, permits and assents, such as discharge, waste, flora, fauna and SSSI, necessary for the job function and DIO estate responsibilities and compliance.
