Full Job Description
The Apostolic Life team at the Diocese of Chichester lead our mission and ministry across Sussex and support us to live out our vision to "Know, Love and Follow Jesus".
An opportunity has arisen for a priest to join the team as Diocesan Director of Ordinands. This crucial part-time role will focus on the discernment process at diocesan and national level for those offering themselves for ordained ministry or the religious life.
This post combines two roles - half of your time will be spent working as Diocesan Director of Ordinands for the DBF and the remaining half of your time will be spent as a parish priest for which an interview with the parish will be required.
The DDO will offer advice to the sponsoring Bishops on individual candidates seeking ordination and work closely with the Deputy Director of Ordinands and Diocesan Director of Vocations and lead our team of volunteer Assistant DDOs to encourage and accompany those exploring ordained ministry and the religious life.
They will provide pastoral oversight of ordinands in training and work closely with the Diocesan Bishop and Director for Apostolic Life to place those coming to the end of their ordination training (IME1)
The principal duties include:
+ Responsibility for the process of discernment to ordained ministry in the diocese
+ Oversight of the volunteer ADDO team
+ Pastoral care and oversight for the training and formation of all sponsored candidates for ordination
+ Maintaining links and relationships with Theological Education Institutes
+ Collaboration with the Diocesan Bishop and Director for Apostolic Life in the placement of title curates
Our ideal candidate will be and offer
+ An experienced ordained priest in the Church of England with a theological qualification to at least degree level
+ An understanding of the relationship between Christian formation of the whole people of God and ordination training
+ Knowledge and understanding of the process of discerning vocations in the Church of England
+ Experience of supporting individuals through a decision-making process and committed to the training and self-development of themselves and others
The remuneration package for the post, comprising two conjoined roles, is a full-time stipend with housing provided.
The Director of Ordinands is expected to work 2.5 days per week (18.75 hours), at Church House with the opportunity to apply to use the DBF's remote working policy to work from home for part of the week This is alongside a half time parish post, and hours can be worked flexibly across both roles.
