Full Job Description

We offer you an unique and exceptional opportunity to make a difference to our local community, which is one of the most diverse in Europe; to our staff, many of whom live locally and who are highly committed to improving the health of our population; and to the next generation of healthcare professionals who come here to learn. We are ambitious in our role as an anchor institution, and seek to influence more than the transactional delivery of healthcare alone. Reducing health inequalities is at the heart of our True North Strategy.
We are in a time of change and opportunity. We have recently expanded our community services offer and are planning to merge with our longstanding clinical partner the Royal Free London group. It's an exciting time for the hospital and our staff; here is your chance to join us and be part of this development.
Our staff are absolutely key to turning our vision of better care for local people into a reality, and we are looking for a Director of Nursing who will share our values, putting being helpful, caring, open and honest at the heart of everything they do and showing a commitment to 'Team North Mid'. If these are values you share we would love to hear from you., The director of nursing will be a core member of the North Mid leadership team and will provide leadership to the associated nursing, midwifery and AHP workforce by shaping a culture of continuous improvement. The director of nursing is responsible for the standards of nursing care and care by allied health professionals and for the implementation of practice in line with the RFL group's objectives and the North Mid Patient First Strategy.
NorthMid delivers local services to its local population, including community services. It is planned that NorthMid will also hold responsibility, as a future health unit within the group, for the oversight and delivery of paediatric services across the RFL group. The director of nursing will have responsibility for leading the nursing, midwifery and AHP workforce in these areas as well as holding executive accountability at health unit level for quality, risk, patient safety, patient and staff experience, infection control and safeguarding.
The director of nursing will work strategically with the North Mid medical director to enhance patient experience, quality of care and ensure patient safety. In addition the director of nursing will ensure effective systems are in place to monitor and improve clinical, operational and financial performance of nursing and AHP teams and individuals. The post holder will lead the CQC agenda across the North Mid.
The director of nursing shall promote and support the use of the Patient First Management System which is a Lean management system, an approach to managing an organisation that supports the concept of continuous improvement. Alongside this the post holder will support the design work of clinical practice groups and will lead the local interpretation and implementation of clinical guidelines and managing to standard from a nursing and patient experience perspective.
This post reports to the North Mid chief executive officer, with a professional accountability to the Royal Free Group chief nursing officer following the proposed merger.
This health unit leadership role is a key element in securing strong site leadership within the designated health unit. These job descriptions may change as the group and health unit model develops.
Informal discussions with the Chief Executive and/or visits to the Trust may be arranged for shortlisted candidates. At North Mid, we respect and value the diversity of our workforce, patients, service users, relatives, carers, and visitors, and we strongly welcome applications from candidates with a diverse background.

We are looking to recruit leaders who want to understand and celebrate the diversity of our local patient and staff populations. Leaders with a growth mindset - who choose to see that there's always a solution to a defined problem - and have the skills to coach for improvement and motivate the individuals and teams around them to perform at a highest level and embrace our Patient First Management System. We are currently looking for an experienced, resourceful and compassionate Director of Nursing to join us.

The North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium-sized acute and community trust with over 525 beds and over 600 community staff, serving more than 600,000 people living across Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.

The Trust's services are provided on the North Middlesex University Hospital site as well as a range of community sites across the London Borough of Enfield, including at partner hospitals. They provide services in collaboration with a range of partners, including local GPs, acute, mental health and other community health service providers across North Central London.
In the year ending 31 March 2024, the Trust reported a turnover of £505m and employed over 5,200 individual members of staff. This increased from the previous year following the transfer of Enfield Community Services on 1st April 2023 when we welcomed over 600 new staff including District Nurses, Community Matrons, Community Physiotherapists, Psychologists and many more across a wide range of adult and children's community services in Enfield. It is an exciting time to join North Mid as we continue our journey as an integrated care organisation to deliver high quality, seamless care in our local communities, with a focus on tackling health inequalities.
