Full Job Description

The Director of People and Operations is a pivotal role within Rough Trade, responsible for leading our human resources and operational functions. This role will ensure the alignment of our people strategy with our business goals, fostering a high-performance culture, and optimising our operations to support growth and efficiency., People Strategy and Management:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that support the overall business plan and strategic direction of the company.

  • Lead talent acquisition, retention, and development efforts to ensure we attract and retain top talent.

  • Oversee employee relations, performance management, and career development programs.

  • Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and high-performance work culture aligned with Rough Trade's values and mission.

  • Ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations.


  • Operations Management:
  • Oversee day-to-day operational activities to ensure smooth and efficient business processes.

  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance productivity and ensure operational excellence.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.

  • Oversee the maintenance and security of company facilities.


  • Leadership and Development:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective management of resources.

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of HR and operational initiatives.

  • Serve as a member of the senior management team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.

    Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree OR relevant experience.

  • Proven experience in a senior HR and operations role, preferably within the retail or music industry.

  • Strong understanding of HR practices, employment laws, and operational management.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Passion for music and alignment with Rough Trade's mission and values.
