Full Job Description

This post manages a team of 22 professional property staff that are involved in the whole breadth of church property. The team manages some property directly (parsonages, closed churches and halls, glebe and provincial properties) and provides guidance and help to those that manage other property (churches, church halls, churchyards and parish property).

The team works in three main areas of specialism:
1. Secular property: Parsonage and glebe
2. Ecclesiastical Property: closed churches, church support
3. Support: Bishop's houses, St Padarns Institute, specific building projects, administration, property legal services

The role should ensure the team is motivated, trained and resourced to provide a professional service accountable to relevant committees.

The post holder needs to be a confident manager of people whilst having a broad-based knowledge of property to guide the team in their work. The ability to make sound judgements on property matters balancing competing demands is key.

  • A Chartered Surveyor with a minimum of 10 years' experience of general practice work.

  • Demonstrable experience of building and managing a high performing team of professional staff and developing staff in their roles.

  • Demonstrable experience of working through democratically organised procedures e.g. committee and board systems.

  • Willingness to be involved in specific property transactions and cases

  • Sound knowledge and experience of estates management, insurance and related matters.

  • Excellent communicator both written and oral and able to prepare and deliver presentations including meetings at significant scale.

  • Good understanding of the way in which property management budgets are constructed, managed and controlled.

  • Computer literate with demonstrable experience of using recognised property management systems and Office 365.

  • An empathy with the mission and ministry of the Church in Wales.
