Full Job Description
UK Technical Maritime Services (UKTMS) is responsible for the UK's Flag and Port State function, and for the development of regulation, guidance and instruction in respect of MCA survey, inspection and audit activities. Along with the latter, UKTMS is also responsible for the UKs maritime safety, security and environmental regulatory regimes, navigational safety, civil hydrography programmes and legislative implementation.
The Directorates operations extends to all vessels registered on the UK flag operating anywhere in the world, to the UK's domestic passenger ships and fishing vessel fleet, to foreign flagged vessels operating within UK waters., As a member of the Executive Team, provide effective and inspiring leadership to your functional areas within MCA. Fostering a high performing culture based on excellence and continuous improvement through effective performance management, communication, colleague engagement and the development of staff.
Work with Senior Leaders in the MCA to make effective decisions and apply corporate governance, promoting and ensuring compliance with legal, corporate, government standards, and controls.
Creating a regulatory climate that is clear, consistent and supportive of the UK maritime industries, whilst ensuring that the regulations are implemented and maintained to the highest standard.
Explore and develop opportunities within UK Technical Maritime Service Directorate that will enable MCA to be at the forefront of creating, improving and implementing new and existing domestic and international standards on safety, sustainability and innovation.
Providing high-quality, skilled surveyors and technical support to the Directorate to enable efficient survey, inspection, audit and technical services to the UK-flagged fleet.
Providing visible and insightful leadership to the UK Technical Maritime Services Directorate diverse work force, including operational surveyors, technical policy officials, legal and economic advisors.
Uphold and develop strong relationships with the Shipping Minister, Department for Transport colleagues, the international shipping industry, the Maritime Accident Investigation Branch and the shipping Trade Unions., The application will include:

Interview and Presentation
You will be requested to attend a panel assessment which will include an interview and presentation, in order to gain a more in-depth discussion of your previous experience and professional competence in relation to the criteria set out in the Person Specification. This role can be based in any of our MCA Offices, however regular attendance to our headquarters in Southampton is a requirement of this role. As a member of the SCS you will be leading teams working on a hybrid basis. The expectation is that you will spend over the 60% workplace attendance requirement of your time in the workplace.
