Ofqual is the independent qualifications regulator for England. We currently regulate 200+ awarding organisations, and approx. 11,600 certified qualifications. These include GCSEs, AS and A levels, and a broad range of vocational and technical qualifications. Based on the 2022 annual people survey Ofqual are ranked 9th out of 104 participating departments., The Director of Strategy and Markets has a central role to play in working with the Chief Regulator and Board to set the organisation’s strategy and maximise our impact. They will need to be a clear strategic thinker, able to see connections, opportunities and identify how best to leverage Ofqual’s impact on behalf of students and apprentices.
The role is broad and includes leading work to deliver against Ofqual’s statutory objectives in relation to value for money and efficiency in the qualifications market, clarity in the market and promoting the benefits of taking a regulated qualification. The post-holder will also be accountable for much of Ofqual’s work looking to the future of how qualifications and assessments are designed and delivered.
We’re looking for someone with the ability to lead a team of experts working across a range of domains. You’ll need to be effective and thrive in an organisational culture that highly prizes collaborative and multi-disciplinary working across all Ofqual’s directorates., We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

+ Leadership, Ofqual works flexibly, with a hybrid office/home based working model. Employees will spend at least two to three days a week working from our office in Coventry. As Coventry will be your base location expenses for travel to the office will not be paid.
Final panel interviews will be held in person at our Coventry Office. Further details will be provided at 'Invite to interview' stage.
Please be aware that expenses incurred by candidates during the recruitment process will not be reimbursed.
A reserve list may be held for up to 6 months, which the Civil Service may use to fill future suitably similar vacancies across government for candidates who are considered appointable following interview.

This role has a minimum assignment duration of 3 years. An assignment duration is the period of time a Senior Civil Servant is expected to remain in the same post to enable them to deliver on the agreed key business outcomes. The assignment duration also supports your career through building your depth of expertise.
As part of accepting this role you will be agreeing to the expected assignment duration set out above. This will not result in a contractual change to your terms and conditions. Please note this is an expectation only, it is not something which is written into your terms and conditions or indeed which the employing organisation or you are bound by. It will depend on your personal circumstances at a particular time and business needs, for example, would not preclude any absence like family friendly leave.
