Full Job Description

In conjunction with the Oncology and Haemotology Directorate Lead for R&D, Clinical Director, Matron, Operational Service Manager (OSM) and clinical leads of the directorate, the post holder will lead and develop the clinical research projects as part of the directorate research and development leadership team. This senior team responsible for research delivery comprises the clinical lead for research, service manager and this post. The research and development service requires working across organisational boundaries to ensure appropriate services are in place and to deliver national and local strategic and operational services objectives and standards. The post-holder will be professionally accountable and responsible for the research delivery team and provide a leading contribution to issues of programme management, audit, quality, safety and governance of the clinical research service.,

  • Lead and develop the projects, programmes and audits required to deliver the clinical research service and ensure the systematic provision of research integrated with high-quality and safe patient care.
  • Work closely with matrons and nursing leads of clinical areas to develop nursing posts to enable research delivery
  • Be specifically responsible for the professional line management of senior research nursing operational team
  • Provide expert nursing clinical leadership, work autonomously within professional guidelines and act as an expert practitioner in cancer clinical trials nursing
  • Instigate innovative and evidence-based practice within the clinical research teams and the wider directorate
  • Exercise senior responsibility and leadership for the systematic governance including annual audits and safety of clinical research activity across the directorate
  • Ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional support for all relevant staff working in the service.
  • Act as a resource in this specialist field by supervision, teaching and implementation of policy.
  • Work collaboratively with teams to provide strategic planning and service development.
  • With the research and development senior team, to contribute as an ambassador for the directorate through communication of clinical trial issues, present specialist information across the department, trust and local clinical research network.
