An opportunity is available for a DSO (Distribution System Operator) Curtailment Engineer based at either Tipton, Bristol, Cardiff or Castle Donington. The DSO Curtailment Team is a new team which will be responsible for the development of curtailment tooling, improvement of curtailment data and the production of curtailment reports. The team will be focussed on improving the curtailment reporting offering we provide to our customers through self-serve data and bespoke reporting. The team will also work closely with DSO Network Operations to develop improved capability to monitor and optimise customer curtailment. This role will report to the DSO Curtailment Lead within the DSO System Models & Data department. The DSO Curtailment Lead role has not yet been filled and will be advertising this role shortly. As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need., Lead on the development of automated curtailment analysis tooling, ensuring it meets the needs of our customers and internal teams Run analysis to produce curtailment reports for external customer reports Engage with stakeholders on curtailment reports and be the business central point of contact for curtailment reporting Improve datasets available on our Connected Data Portal (CDP) that enable customers to undertake their own curtailment analysis Work closely with both the Primary and Secondary modelling teams to ensure our tooling integrates smoothly with our power system software's Continually review strategic opportunities to enhance modelling and curtailment capabilities to meet business needs and drive efficiency Proactively working with the data owners and maintainers to continually improve data quality, accuracy and system integration Providing clear technical curtailment support to Network Services, Planners and Engineering policy Take opportunities to engage with the wider business to communicate changes and how it impacts the wider business Represent the Company on specialist groups or national working groups, as required Creation, manipulation and processing of curtailment data Provide a supportive environment for trainees and new starters, acting as a mentor and directing work as appropriate Scope work for consultants and provide technical oversight and approval
- Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete., The Ideal CandidateYou should be self-motivated, inquisitive and demonstrate a clear knowledge of the principles and issues associated with distribution network design, load management schemes and network curtailment. An electrical engineering degree or similar qualification is required. The ability to present information in a clear and reasoned way, together with an open yet analytical approach to problem solving, and good computer skills are essential to the role. The successful candidate will be process driven and have a focus on data quality and an 'automate-first' approach to enable effective management of and development of the secondary network modelling capability. Experience with power system software including PSS Sincal, DINIS, Aspen OneLiner, PSSE, IPSA or Power Factory would be extremely beneficial. Experience in scripting languages, particularly Python would be advantageous. You must be reliable, well organised and be able to work effectively as part of a small team and able to work using your own initiative. Excellent IT skills are essential and experience with NGED internal systems e.g. Electric Office, EMU, PowerOn, CROWN, E5 and GitLab is desirable, although training will be given on the applications used. You will engage with internal stakeholders including on a regular basis, so strong communication skills are crucial. You will proactively identify opportunities to improve the existing process and work closely with the wider business to develop and implement new strategies.
