Full Job Description
We are setting up a new service to support customers impacted by domestic abuse and we're looking for two Domestic Co-ordinators to join us. At YHG, our priorities are to keep people safe and be a great landlord and as a Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator, you will have a key role to play in this. Using your empathy and listening skills to build trust, you will reach out to YHG customers impacted by domestic abuse, risk assess their situation, and identify and take ownership of actions needed to support them. You will attend MARAC meetings and work effectively with both YHG teams and external services to reduce the risk to victim/ survivors. What will my working week look like? You will be home based but work flexibly to support YHG customers, with some travel required to attend meetings or visit customers. What will I be responsible for doing? First and foremost, you will……. Act as a single point of contact for customers experiencing domestic abuse, taking ownership of their cases from start to finish. You will work with victim/survivors to complete risk assessments, identify and arrange any urgent action needed to keep them safe. You will make appropriate MARAC and social care referrals and attend MARAC meetings. You will work with Social Care, the Police, IDVAs and other specialist services to reduce risk to victim/survivors and offer long term support. You will be sensitive and aware of the diverse backgrounds of customers and ensure that our response and support takes account of their differing needs.
You will understand the particular risks faced by people impacted by domestic abuse, understand good practice in terms of safety and always act in a way that reduces risks. You will be confident in working with YHG colleagues and other teams and take responsibility to ensure that everything we need to do to support the customer gets done within the agreed timeframes. You will be experienced in working with other professionals, understand their roles and be able to build good working partnerships. And what would make me stand out from the crowd? - In depth experience of supporting victim/survivors of domestic abuse
- A deep understanding of domestic abuse in all its forms
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to build trust with victim/ survivors
- An understanding of trauma and the ability to take a trauma informed approach
- An excellent knowledge of domestic abuse legislation and legal remedies available to safeguard victim/survivors
- An excellent understanding of risk in the context of domestic abuse and what statutory and voluntary interventions are available to support and reduce the risk to victim/ survivors
- Demonstrable ability to build good working relationships with partner agencies
- Excellent organisation skills and a commitment to getting the best outcomes for customers Ideally you will be a ……. Passionate advocate for victim/survivors of domestic abuse, who understands risk and safe ways of working. Someone who is skilled at communicating, building trust and showing empathy to customers and works positively with colleagues and other professionals. This role is really suited to someone who is resilient and persistent, finds creative ways to engage with customers, who works independently and manages their own caseload.
