Full Job Description

The primary purpose of this role is to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning as part of the community AAA screening programme. The post holder will ensure abdominal ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.

The post holder will reassure men attending the community AAA screening and surveillance clinics and explain the screening test to them. The post holder will ensure that the men attending clinics are informed and aware of the implications of AAA screening.

Travel is required across Dorset and Wiltshire but predominately Dorset.

Duties could also include AAA administration, equipment checks, audit and research. A flexible attitude is required to meet the evolving demands of the screening service., Multiple clinic venues run across Dorset and Wiltshire in Community Hospitals and GP Practices. Your role will be to cover these clinics undertaking aortic ultrasound scanning and returning to Salisbury Foundation Trust on a regular basis. You will be required to travel to scan in multiple locations across Wiltshire and Dorset, but predominately Dorset. Access to a car with business insurance and a driving license are therefore essential for this post.

Travel and mileage allowances will be calculated in accordance with Agenda for Change policy. Work will be allocated within a reasonable distance to your base, however, you may be expected to travel further afield for meetings and training events.

The post holder will work as an assistant practitioner, carrying out abdominal ultrasound scans within standard operating procedures. Following successful completion of the NAAASP course, the post holder will work independently and make judgements according to experience and training. Advice is available when needed for more complex situations but the post holder generally works on his/her own initiative without reference to the Line Manager

Successful completion of training and the award of the Health Screeners Diploma & NAASP accreditation will be required. We would expect you to be semi-independent scanning within 9 months of joining the service and fully qualified within 24 months.
