Full Job Description

As our next Duty Officer you'll be leading the day-to-day management, Health and Safety, supervision and coordination of the Leisure Centre and its programmes and associated activities and areas. You'll also have a role to play in contributing to increasing and sustaining active participation across the City. The role is integral to our Active Leeds team running 16 leisure centres across Leeds.,

  • To lead the day-to-day management, Health and Safety, supervision and coordination of the Leisure Centre and its programmes and associated activities and areas.
  • To contribute to increasing and sustaining active participation across the City., To be responsible for all members of staff under their control, including maintaining appropriate staffing levels, high standards of service and customer care.
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness and presentation, both in respect of the facilities, themselves and the staff.
  • Ensure that all heating, lighting, ventilation, plant and other services are operating to the required standards, reporting any defects to the appropriate person / service.
  • Liaise effectively with customers and stakeholders to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • To assist in the administrative duties relating to the operation of the facility, including the correct recording of all income, sales, attendance and associated records.
  • To ensure correct & safe set up and dismantling of equipment.
  • To undertake miscellaneous duties including reception work, life guarding, cleaning, coaching and instruction as and when required.
  • To support training programmes in conjunction with colleagues & Managers.
  • To assist with the correct and efficient operation of all licensed bar, catering & hospitality activities where appropriate.
  • To support the Leisure Centre Manager with all aspects of Health & Safety.
  • To act as a key holder and be available for emergency call-out as necessary.
  • To effectively manage appropriate budgets in accordance with Leeds City Council's Financial Regulations.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be assigned from time to time and that are commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • To undertake the accountabilities of the post in accordance with council policies including the Safeguarding of Young People and Vulnerable Adults, Equality and Diversity and Health & Safety policies.

    As a Duty Officer, you will bring to the role:
  • Great leadership skills to lead a diverse team across the site

  • Organisation & planning to lead shifts
  • An awareness of Health and Safety and its importance within Leisure Centres, ISRM National Pool Plant Operators certificate or equivalent
  • Current NPLQ PERSON SPECIFICATION: Method of Assessment will be through one or more of the following Application Form, Test, Interview, and Certificate ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: It is essential that the Candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post within the context of the specific role duties and responsibilities: Candidates will only be shortlisted for interview if they can demonstrate on the application form that they meet all the essential requirements Skills Required

  • DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: It is desirable that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post within the context of the specific role. Candidates are not required to meet all the Desirable requirements however these may be used to distinguish between acceptable candidates. Knowledge Required
  • Knowledge of quality assurance systems and their application to a leisure environment
  • ISRM / ILAM certificate or N.V.Q. equivalent
  • Knowledge of Hospitality
  • Knowledge of the management of staff training
  • Institute of Safety and Health (I.O.S.H.) Managing Safely or equivalent
  • National Licensee certificate where required
  • Experience Required
  • Experience of leisure facility management
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Experience of working within a Quality Assurance system
  • Experience of managing events
